I'm curious about the Macbook, but unfortunately the software that I'm using will probably never be on a Mac.
But maybe I'll get the Air for personal uses, however the Apple tax on upgrades is hilarious and making it difficult.

By reilo Go To PostWhy not check Geekbench or Cinebench database?Data is one thing like real time playback speed and render time, but I want to feel the performance emperically. To see if it's really worth the upgrade.

Kibner and I actually went through this and it's so easy to do these days. There's everything from free options to stuff like Parallels which costs money but works incredible on M chip MBPs -- including a mode that will run a Windows app and make it look like its a standalone app within Mac.
BIG caveat that YMMV if you're using hardware intensive software like AutoCAD or something.
I love my M2 Air, fwiw. The heaviest thing I do on it is build personal websites. 512GB SSD and 16GB of unified memory is enough. I don't play games on it. I have never done anything that would cause it to thermally throttle. It just works and works well with 10+ hours of battery life when watching Twitch.tv and Hulu after 18+ months.
It's also really dang light and the absense of a fan means it is absolutely silent, which is useful when in bed. The only upgrade I really need for it is an oled screen. They are all still using mini-led, iirc. An oled screen would truly make it wonderful.
Also, a touch screen would be excellent but Apple has literally no desire to do that for MacOS, which makes me incredibly sad. It is the one major hardware thing laptops like the MS Surface have over it.

how cow look how overpriced that thing is
(it's my new work laptop)
I actually get to choose all the computer specs/models for the company and selected that one, but I couldn't have pulled off having the only Mac in the company :/
People already going to give me looks for having that model and not the fat Precision 7000 series

unfortunately, my contract workers only use da vinci and premiere for editing.
but that's a good idea, im gonna run to the local apple store and see if i can have them demo premiere running on an m3

Ding ding ding. I'm actually very surprised that Autodesk software don't have Apple Silicon versions, but that's probably because I think of them as Adobe type of company that is good at getting their software at everything.

I was actually ringing for the "or something" part of that sentence. I'm surprised that AutoCAD has an Apple Silicon version and even Maya. But Inventor does not, and that's what we use the most. SolidEdge and SAP I don't think have Apple Silicon versions either, but need to google that one.
