Must be nice being Platinum... 😯 Sounds so good.
Tiers:
PSY: Psy, Smokey, reilo
Copper: shogun?
Silver: jong, Adam, Christ?, burger?
Gold: matman, Kib,
Platinum: mash, shin, Evo, TTTR
Incomplete list thus far...
Add reilo to PSY tier. It's temporary, but them's the rules.
When he gets an F-Type, he'll be permitted back into gold.

I went and saw my car at the detailer's last night and he had just finished it. The ceramic is still hardening and the film still had air bubbles in spots but it's already looking really good. I gave him full permission to use whatever products he thought would work best so he ended up going with a Feyn Labs ceramic treatment and using Suntek film on the hood and PremiumSheild on the lower front, fenders and rocker panels.
Oh and speaking of E39 BMW's, this detailer has 3 of them. He has a 5 series wagon a 3 series sedan and a 3 series coupe. He says they are kind've his thing!

Time to choose my new company car. Wife wants a 5 door hatchback which is fine with me. We currently have a Golf and I would probably go for that again if it weren't for their lies about CO2 omissions. It didn't end up effecting me but it annoyed me.
I like the look of the Focus, reckon all the new Fords look nice but if you want petrol the new model is currently only available with a 1.0litre turbo engine which seems way too small for the size of the car. Looking at the other cars in the range like the BMW 1 series, the Audi A3 etc. They are all very good cars but a little bit samey.
Probably going to go for the new A class simply because its got the top of the line Mercedes gadgets like:
Voice activated ambient lighting.

and Augmented Reality sat nav

Both pointless but I like gadgets

Wow, Doug DeMuro's review of the A8 is a disgrace to journalism. How do you score a car that you were only allowed to drive for 5 minutes in a parking lot?
What the fuck?!
Back in the day, us gaming journalists would get tarred and feathered if we reviewed a game that we didn't get AT LEAST 50-75% through (or even in some cases: complete 100%). This guy is such a sack.

lmao I wonder if he even drove over 10mph.
^^ Seriously
370Z Update: Tomorrow, the car is going to get some sound insulation done to the rear cabin. The lining of the quarter panels will be taken off and Second Skin will be applied. The rear trunk will get stripped down and that too will get a layer of Second Skin applied to it. I'll be adding about 25lbs of weight total, but it'll allow me to not worry so much about exhaust noise creeping into the cabin.
I have Motordyne ART (Test) Pipes on the way. And a true cold air intake that will sit at the front of the engine bay, resting on the bumper support. Plus custom ECU dyno tune. Those 3 mods will net me 35WHP over stock. It'll put me at about 370HP motor.
And after that, I'll see if I go for a cat-back or not. Or I may just swap out the Y-pipe for a higher flowing one, which is really the biggest issue with the factory exhaust. Unless I find a used Nismo exhaust (which replaces the Y-pipe with an X-pipe setup).

Small rant, but I hate emissions testing. Had to take my Volvo S70 through emissions, and had to argue with the people there for 15 minutes that my car is on a list where the readiness sensors are almost impossible to get set. After arguing they finally look it up and agree to retest without the obd2 scanner. Not looking forward to doing this again in 2 years.
Though, I will admit I did lie and say I had already driven over 100 miles since I reset the engine light, when in fact it was more like 20 miles. But I know from last time that 100 miles isn't enough anyway.

Did the sound deadening. Effective, and the rear is quieter. But noise from the front tires and doors still permeate. LOL.
On roads that are NOT concrete it's made a great difference. I think the car does need an alignment and these Firestone tires eat shit.
I also have some leftover material and think I will apply to the front wheel well liners.

Went and checked out the "Cruise the 'Couve" event up the street from my house. The Saab Sonnet and Austin Healey Sprite win, I think.

test drove the a4 and q50 this weekend
the q50 was pretty good though the navigation suite is looking a little too 2010 at this point. i like the v6 turbo a lot more than what was in the g37, also less turbo lag than my 328i. however the a4 was amazing, love the feel of the dual clutch transmission. that said, the lease deals infiniti's offering are almost too good to be true. can score a fully loaded q50 3.0t for about the same as the base a4 quattro.
still gonna check out a 330i and maybe a 340 but im leaning heavy towards the q50 right now.

I had the front of my Focus RS done in Xpel. I had been quoted $495 for the full bumper, 20" of the hood, partial fenders, and mirrors. I asked them how much for the full hood instead, and they quoted me $995. I'm glad I went with the full hood. First they did a full paint correction. I only had around 2000mi on the car, but I had already touched up some nicks in the bumper with my Dr Colorchip kit. They didn't use a pre-cut piece for the hood. Instead they removed the windshield washer nozzles and did it custom. He modified the pattern for the front bumper to give some extra coverage on the inside edges that lead into the intercooler. The Nitrous Blue paint really hides the film. I'm very happy with the results. Especially for that price! It was 50% of any other quote I got.
Mike Manley has been immediately granted "all the powers of CEO" of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. In a statement, FCA said its Board of Directors made this decision "in order to provide for his full authority and operational continuity for the company." Manley, who has been at the helm of Jeep since 2009 and Ram since 2015, is expected to be named an executive director for FCA after the next shareholder's meeting.Whoa, that's pretty huge. Hope Marchionne is alright.
In a similar statement, Ferrari said it had "named John Elkann as Chairman and will propose to Shareholders, at a meeting to be called in the coming days, that Louis C. Camilleri be named as CEO."
CNH Industrial, a company that makes trucks, agricultural, and industrial equipment and which Marchionne also chairs, named Suzanna Heywood, as his replacement.
Sergio Marchionne, who had served as CEO of both FCA and Ferrari, suffered "unexpected complications" as he was recovering from surgery performed earlier this month. FCA's statement adds that these complications "have worsened significantly in recent hours."
He ain't doing well at all. They're saying he's gravely ill and that his condition worsened within hours a few days ago.
I suspect he got an infection after his shoulder surgery. He's been in intensive care for quite a while now.
Sometime towards the end of June they said after a Jeep event he felt extremely exhausted and left early. My best friend had a similar reaction after surgery on his leg where 2 weeks later he felt extremely tired, started running a fever, and the hospital immediately started giving him antibiotics on a drip. His bone had an infection from the surgery and luckily they were able to clean it up and he healed weeks later.
But that's the huge risk you get when exposing bone to the outside elements.
I hope he pulls through. He okay'd cars like the Viper, Hellcat, Demon, Alfa Giulia and Stelvio QF. He's a saint.

I hope he pulls through too. But isn't he also the guy who has let the Dodge lineup gather cobwebs? Their most recent "new" vehicle is the Durango from 2011. In fact, the Dart, which has already been canned, was newer than the Durango.

That said, you can't argue with what they've done with Jeep. I can't believe how popular those mall-crawlers are now. And Chrysler's performance lineup is absolutely improbable.

Donut Media's Carroll Shelby video is something special...James and the channel are arguably the best and most informative. Shits on the hacky non sense Doug DeMuro spouts about.

Yes, very true. But yourself into his shoes. Nobody is or was clamoring new 300s or Chargers. The business proposition for them was fairly poor. They were a product created well before Sergio's/Fiat's take over and he made them better and better with every major overhaul. By the time Fiat took over Chrysler, all of the R&D had already been finished on the current crop of Chryslers and Dodges we have now. What FCA is likely doing is biding their time until they unify all of the cars with a major platform share and go modular.
But yes, as you said, they lit the flames under Dodge with the Hellcat line. And I suspect going forward, Dodge will be viewed as the sportiest of the Chrysler brand. Chrysler will rebrand/remarket as the luxury division to rival Ford's quickly transforming Lincoln. And Jeeps will continue to sell in droves.
By reilo Go To PostDid you test drive a new A4? The new A4 uses a ZF 7-Speed unit iirc. Not even the RS5 has a DCT.That's only partially correct. The A4 and A5 still have the DCT. It isn't until you move to the models with the V6 that the ZF unit is used. Basically if it is a 4 or 5 cylinder then it has a DCT but if it is a 6 cylinder then it has the ZF auto.

yah it was the 2018 a4, dual clutch was listed on the window sticker fwiw's but im not up to speed on the more specific details on what is and isn't a true dct.
infiniti sales rep got in touch me with this morning with an even more aggressive offer on the q50, dunno how they expect to make any money off this thing.
Huh, I learned something new. Kinda weird to have a DCT unit in the entry tiers given the complexity of such a transmission.

Pretty sure the reason for the automatic is that their DCT would need to be re-engineered to support the torque from their bigger drivetrains, or at least that's what I gather from interviews with folks. Nothing wrong with that ZF 8/10 speed though, damn thing is everywhere these days.
Well fuck... the M3 got sold. Waiting on payment now.
Bought for ~$35k, sold for ~$24k
Could have gotten more had it not been for ... circumstances ... but not bad, I guess.

Everyone focuses on the performance aspects but DCT's are actually quite efficient also.
For a company that sells so many SUV's (the base Q3 and Q5 both come with the S-tronic DCT also) that really adds up when it comes to stuff like CAFE averages.
Damn that’s sad news.
RIP.
I’ll redline my GTI in honor and as thanks for giving us the Hellcat and the Demon.

Porsche has unveiled the new Macan in Shanghai. The compact SUV has been a great success since its launch in 2014, and has now been significantly enhanced in terms of its design, comfort, connectivity and driving dynamics, allowing the Macan to remain the sporty flagship in its segment.https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/products/porsche-macan-2018-compact-suv-world-premiere-shanghai-design-comfort-connectivity-driving-dynamics-15890.html
The new Macan stays true to the Porsche design DNA with a three-dimensional LED tail light strip. LED technology also features in the headlights as standard. The most striking innovations inside the vehicle include the 11-inch touchscreen of the new Porsche Communication Management (PCM), re-designed and re-positioned air vents and the GT sports steering wheel familiar from the 911. The PCM enables access to new digital functions, such as intelligent voice control and the online navigation system provided as standard. The vehicle’s range of comfort equipment has also been expanded to include a traffic jam assist, an ioniser and a heatable windscreen
