Anyone else catch this? The A4 Ultra Sport is coming back for a final 40 units, manual only. The final 40 manual A4's to ever be produced for North America. Pretty cool and even though I love my car I am weirdly tempted by this total sleeper. https://audiclubna.org/audi-a4-ultra-sport-returns-manual-only-and-highly-limited/
I don't think there's anything sleeper about a 2 liter 4-banger. They didn't bump up the power at all.
But, I will say that I actually drove one 3 weeks ago, and it is shockingly quick for what it is. It feels like it has way more than its claimed power. What did confuse me is the claimed quiet cabin noise. I found it to be pretty normal. What package does the car need to be equipped with to be as quiet as a Rolls?

By Francis Go To PostHave we discussed what an absolute abomination of a design their new steering wheel is? I mean, goddamn. Tacky as fuck.I like you more and more.
I'm thinking of doing a business lease next year and would like to get a smallish fun car before kids arrive. Was thinking about the A class, but that steering wheel is horrible.
Only left with Golf, 1 series and maaaaybe the A3. Oh, the new V40 should be unveiled soon as well.
A Lego Chiron that can be driven.

I've seen quite a few Audi reviews recently where the reviewers talked about road noise being noticeable and it certainly is in my TTRS depending on the surface. Wind noise is basically none but on a bad surface or areas with lots of little imperfections you are going to hear those tires. Smooth pavement is really, really quiet though so it's very surface dependent.

Floored the car today at 50MPH...set off the traction control noticeably. Hahaha. It gave me a big laugh while driving. Normally I use the paddles, but decided I wanted an unexpected feeling of acceleration, as opposed to controlling it by dropping gears myself.
The power delivery is fucking nuts now that the tune is fully adapted. The amount of low-end torque is hilarious - the car's whole front end lifts up at 2000RPM because the surge of power is so strong now. And the top end power is just as hilarious. It's crazy how much simple software holds this car back. The Denso ECUs don't even allow for AFR adjustments. All of the power on these cars is held back with things like: 85% throttle at WOT bumped to 100% throttle at WOT (this frees up 60HP+), computer limited torque output (this frees up 45lb ft), timing (another 15-20HP), and some other factors.
600HP is an entirely different level of performance. The car may be SLAENT-Gold. Performance/power is bordering Platinum.

I'm not crazy about the gaping front, tbh. The 991s look much smoother up front. The plastic in the rear may be a bit much too. What's for sure is that the interior will be a major step up.

This isn't a boast or brag and I hope it doesn't come out that way but I genuinely enjoy being able to give other enthusiasts a ride in my car just because it promotes and encourages the hobby. We had a death in the family on my wife's side and during the course of the visitation and funeral I ended up giving a couple of spirited rides to younger relatives that are as geeky and enthusiastic about cool cars as I am.
The youngest was 11 and I could tell it took a lot of courage for him to come and up and ask me if he could have a ride in my car. All I could think of was that he was just like me (30 years ago, lol) and that my 11 year old self would have jumped at the same chance and I absolutely could not turn this kid down. Turns out he is a big Lambo fan and knew that both the TTRS and the 5.2 V10 used in the Hurracan and R8 start out in the same production facility in Gyor, Hungary.
I say all of that to say, isn't it cool to meet other enthusiasts and share in the excitement, especially to someone younger who is just getting started.

The 1st fully electric Mercedes model (EQC) has been unveiled and... it ain't pretty.
Yeah, the EQC is... something. I'm actually OK with the styling, but that range leaves a lot to be desired. From what I can tell, the main issue is just that the thing's super heavy from them having to cram a bunch of extra cages for safety into the body since it may as well be an electric GLC.
If they can realize enough cost sharing from all those parts to make the cost hit the 50-65K mark then it's probably a hit, and it makes perfect sense performance wise in their existent lineup. Price it the same as the i-Pace and there's just no competition. It's faster, has better range and more interior space.

Heard some great news from EvoX today; the Cayman should (if everything goes according to schedule) arrive at the dealership in the middle of December, just a few days before my birthday.
By Francis Go To PostRetractable wing? Porsche, no!They've had active aero for a while
By reilo Go To PostThey've had active aero for a whileI know, but I really dislike when they retract completely into the body. Especially on a 911. It doesn’t look right.
I do wonder how much extra $ it’ll cost to get the front and rear bumpers painted...
Yeah, with that wing up, the rear end looks weird.
Otherwise, that's a Porsche.
If this is the 992 model...they're going to skip 993 right? Next one will be a 994, I'd assume?

Test drove a 2018 Miata (pre-power bump, 155HP).
-Great interior.
-Slow.
-Yet fun.
-Lots of body roll, but it's there to tell you where the limits are.
-Great steering feel.
-Very go-kart like.
I bet the 2019s are awesome.

By AlphaSnacks Go To PostTest drove a 2018 Miata (pre-power bump, 155HP).It warms my enthusiast heart that Mazda is still making the Miata and that people are still buying and enjoying them. I have yet to drive an ND but the previous generations were all fun and great and everyone says the ND's are just as good or better. The power bump is welcome though. Nothing wrong with having a fun car that can keep up with traffic and can pass others with relative ease.

Honestly, I think the pre-power bump ND's are fine if you've never driven a faster car before lol. Back when I had my NC at the dealer for some work, they gave me a 6AT ND GT and it really wasn't too bad. But I imagine with the power bump tho, it must be really nice.
Anyway, this was loooooooooong overdue but some of my fave cars from the Petersen:
This RX-3 is imo one of the best cars in the entire museum. Not only does it look really good it's got a 3-rotor 20B pushing 400hp...
A link to a Super Street Online article about this RB26 Kenmeri Skyline.
This Toyoda AA and Duesenberg II are fucking huge lol. Both are supposedly replicas but it's kinda amazing how huge they are and tbh I kinda had a realization... the first cars were practically as huge as SUV's and considering how SUV's popular these days, feels like we're coming full circle.
I'll be in my bunk lol.
Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag
Time for some Porsches:
D'awwww look at that baby Panamera.
I love these things... it really does look like Porsche stuck a tea table and called it a day lmao.
Because racecar:
Alright I'm done lol. I've got loads more photos in the album here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/27432612@N04/albums/72157695323852010/page1
^^^ Sick photos.
In other news, GM can't sell Camaros anymore. I wonder why?
https://jalopnik.com/the-ford-mustang-is-eating-the-chevy-camaros-lunch-1828921644
Let's see:
The interior still looks terrible
The exterior looks like a cheap toy
The exterior doesn't look a whole lot different than the previous gen car, so the car looked outdated before it even went on market
The refresh somehow managed to make the car worse and didn't fix the downright generic taillights
You still can't see shit outside the car
And as you approach higher-spec Camaros...you get into Corvette territory. So why drive a cheap looking Camaro, when you can drive a great looking Vette? It's possibly one reason why the Vette is going mid-engined: to distance itself from the Camaro.

So the owner of the dealership I work at got his hands on a red 2000gt. Beautiful fucking car. He got it for 500k during carweek. We also had a guy bring his AMG Hammer in today but I wasn’t able to snap a picture. The thing was gnarly.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostHoly mother of pearl…I didn't even know they were that expensive. :OThey go for around 1-1.5 million so I wonder how he got it for 500k. That’s what I heard from someone who went with him but when I see the owner on Thursday I’ll ask him directly.

Wow - congratulations! That was definitely the deal of Car Week.
If you want to see practically everything and everyone making waves in automotive, come to Car Week. Every car enthusiast needs to do Quail and go see Exotics on Cannery Row at least once. (At Quail, you can spend 30 minutes and talk in person to Horatio Pagani, Christian von Koenigsegg, and Stephen Winkelmann.) Spend at least one afternoon/evening watching the hypercar insanity driving by on Ocean Avenue. By the end of the day on Sunday, a 458 will seem like a Civic.
Damned oil leak came back on the Z from the oil cooler again. Argh. Noticed it the other day when I saw smoke coming from the car when I stopped moving. When I got home I noticed a few trickles of oil on my garage floor, and then I looked underneath the floorpan and saw it's oily.
Ordered some new rubber o-ring gaskets for the AN fittings that run to the oil cooler. Months back we noticed the first leak was a result of the o-ring swollen from absorbing too much oil. We adjusted the hoses and routed them a certain way to prevent seepage, clamped it down, and it worked great. But I guess after some driving, things must have shifted a bit and the lack of a gasket is causing issues to persist. So I ordered a box of heavy duty gaskets with 1-day shipping. Hoping to get this fixed within the next few days

Evo, lmk about your side hustle. :p
But on a serious note, I'd imagine Evo's dealer in Chicago has probably been sent a notice about this already. Insane that something like this happened.

Super cool and awesome guy.......oh yeah, his car is INSANE! The best sounding car I've ever heard in my life! I still have goosebumps just thinking about it!! My car sounds like a Prius compare to it!! His car has all the drama you can ask for, the F1 high pitch, the gaurgle and Poppin, the crazy high pitch, the backfire flames, etc..just a well thought out genius set up! INSANE!!!!

Thank you, brotha - fantastic meeting you, too! Your car looks and sounds fabulous, as well. The amount of carbon fiber on your SL is insane, LOL. Best looking interior I’ve ever seen on a G.

Although, right now I'm not feeling so great at the moment: it doesn't look like we resolved the Z's leak. Oil cooler may need all new hoses and fittings.
XKR has a bad tweeter on the passenger side. That's getting fixed this week, part ordered.
XF has interior rattles and noises and was dropped off on Thursday. All 3 of my cars have something wrong with them.
Oh, and the Z may have some additional problems...ARGH
