By Xpike Go To PostYoda is there to tell Luke that maybe he's right and both of their Jedi Orders were failures, but that doesn't mean they are always going to be, but rather that Rey can learn from these failures and make a better one.
That's clearly the direction the movie wants to go, but I disagree that it set that expectation well. Rey has the Ancient Jedi text for no reason, basically.
Just saw it. Thought it was pretty good. A bit too long and some plot points went nowhere but good.
not sure what the pushback is really.

i don't understand all this 'plot points went nowhere' criticism :lol
Every single one of the plot points - explicitly including those that failed to go 'somewhere' - developed character.

super-fans are going to dig into the nitty-gritty of why The Last Jedi didn’t live up to everything that made the original and prequel trilogies great Star Wars films.
What?
I know fans have a tendency to always say the newest thing sucks and the older shit is so much superior but when did PT become great?
I'm struggling to think of one thing from the prequels that I liked more than Disney's current productions.
In the prequels, the galaxy actually felt pretty big.

By n8 dogg Go To PostI like a lot of the ship designs in TPMYou should play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic via BC on Xbox One if Dean got one, or just play the Steam version. It runs on a potato.
I'm sure you'll enjoy the game Pillbury.

I consider Revenge of the sith to be a good film actually. I think its a very entertaining watch from start to finish. There are some horrific lines and some awful logic but that doesn't mean much as an almost pure action film.

I agree with this while still thinking what I thought.

True. Light saber fight with Darth Maul was tight as well
TPM might have had podracing, but it also had "now this is podracing."

Only if they would have got someone that could act and had swagger.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postmovie should be seen twice tbhI feel like I need to do this. I feel really stupid because nobody's talking about it on here, but can someone explain the relationship between Poe and Holdo?
Was his demotion that bad that she felt he couldn't be trusted with the truth? That didn't really land with me and was left with the feeling that Space Monaco and DJ revealing the evacuation could have been avoided if she mentioned something more than having faith.
Under what obligation should a Vice Admiral provide privileged information to a loose cannon like Poe that repeatedly defied direct orders and got his fellow soldiers killed? The point was to put him in his place to respect the chain of command, but instead he mutinied. It was a point of trying to get Poe to start trusting the leadership that they know what they are doing.
You're right, she wasn't obligated to, but if that was the point, why would you deal with him in a way that enabled his worst tendencies?
Here's a guy who listens more to his gut than he does authority, who poses a risk to himself and other concerned crew. Keeping him in the dark provided justification to defy orders and got even more people killed. Wouldn't the easiest way to have built that trust show that they actually did know what they were doing?
When he comes to after the mutiny, Leia tells him the plan and iirc he says something like 'That might just work'. Would his reaction been any different if Holdo had said the same from the get go?

Why was she wearing a ball gown though?
She looked so out of place compared to everyone else
Dat lightspeed battering ram attack was anime as fuck - and I loved it.

It felt like it was from a completely different movie than the opening with the bombers. I don't think it would have been any less jarring if bb8 had just decided to take over a star destroyer and gone on some Culture-mind esque obliteration of the whole first order fleet at smaller-than-human-comprehension timescales, Falling Outside the Normal Moral Constraints style. It's like that meets a Roger Rabbit-esque "you could have blown their entire fleet up at ANY TIME?"
"No, not at any time, only when it was funny!".
Finally watched it:
Good
- Everything about Luke. The tone of the character, the fighting, the "death".
- Yoda
- Poe's character arc is great.
- Finn started low, but got better over the film
- Things not going as planned at all
- The rebels protecting the door was the first time I felt ships fighting and such were actually exciting
Bad
- Leia in the space
- Snoke being so shit
- Kylo and Rey minutes of teenage love and telephone calling
- Rian can't direct funny scenes/gags at all. At least not intentionally.
- Feel like Rey (Ridley) was very underused by Rian in this film, not because of the screen time but I feel he didn't make use of her strengths. I thought Rey and Finn were the best things about the Ep7. Rey was specially empty in this movie.
- the planet casino lol, I guess that's a reminder of how these films could have gone with Lucas

Casino arc was bad writing in more ways than one. It's not something I would have expected from Rian.
Finally saw it. Im in the "meh" camp. Didnt hate it or love it. The anti-hot takes are pretty hiliarious tho.

By RATHasReturned Go To PostPre-ordered my ticket when they were released because of Rian Johnson. I fully expect him to deliver something new and interesting.
And he delivered the completely wrong movie. Damn. I was burned on TLJ.
