OSAKA – A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 hit western Japan on Monday morning, the Meteorological Agency said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The 7:58 a.m. quake registered lower 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the northern part of Osaka Prefecture, the weather agency said
