Assassin's Creed Odyssey - I Like The Witcher 3 But Good
- Page 1 of 1
probably just a couple people on slaent have the game. I'm 12 hours in and it's good. overwhelmingly large as I've literally only been to two small islands in Greece. Basically Origins with better combat, quests, characters, sailing, plot. Deeper RPG mechanics with choices that affect the plot, romance options. Shadow of Mordor esque bounty hunter system and a lot more systems on top of that.
By blackace Go To PostIt's got better combat than Origins?
More RGPish?
man… getting hard not to get it now
It's pretty much full blown wrpg. Beginning is super Witcher 3 like.
By Kidjr Go To PostPSY selling this to my soul hard, any dislikes? The combat is improved with all the different abilities/supers you can use and is overall much tighter. They've removed shields and now have an extremely generous Parry window.
But even with the changes, the combat still isn't that good lol. Leagues better than Witcher 3 tho.
There are a lot of systems and they all don't feel fully fleshed out.
The game is incredibly massive, 3 times bigger than Origins, double the size of Witcher 3. I've played a dozen hours and been to like maybe 5% of the games land map. Take that how you want.
Feel like I'm definitely getting this over christmas when I can sink some time into it. Sounds too big to get sucked into right now. Wasn't sold on it but the reviews are good and I've seen some streams and it looked fun

if its richley filled with varying content, NPC and sidequests that take an interesting twist this could be amazing!
By Lunatic Go To PostIf you've played one AssCreed you have player them all. Only one I have finished was Black Flag.Pre origins yeah. Origins and Oddysey are huge departures from the series.
Phokis is so beautiful. Finding Lalaia almost hidden in the forests was dope.
I really don't know how Ubisoft pumps out the massive, ultra detailed worlds. Insane pipeline.

By HasphatsAnts Go To Postunlimited resources and manpowerRockstar has that and they're about to put out their first new game in 5 years.
By blackace Go To PostThey need to just drop the asscreed shit and just make open arpgs throughout historyI still dig the whole "It's a VR simulation" stuff since it gives the devs a little creative freedom. The Garden of Evil shit or whatever it is now I'm 'meh' on.

By alt sy Go To Postevery dev reuses assets but there are so many new assets in this game it's crazy.Yeah it is nuts. I thought I read somewhere that the Odyssey team was working on it almost concurrently with Origins and that both teams helped each other out.
By HasphatsAnts Go To Posteverything i hear about this game seems to suggest i should wait for a sale.?
By blackace Go To Post?Way too much capital C Content(tm)
Actually it makes me wary. I’m always compelled to 100% games like this, and rhis sounds like it might drive me nuts. Fortunately it’s been a year that didn’t have much for me so I’m not struggling under a pile of shame anymore. More like a handful of shame.
I’ll probably pick it up to play over Christmas as well.

Game is so huge lol. 20 hours in and touched 15% of the map.
Also, remember to grab the gold xp and gear quests from each towns message board. Most of the times they arent specific quests but rather goals that give you tons of XP.
-break down gear for materials
-use money to buy materials from shops
-cleave ships in half for more loot.

Are you doing side missions?
On PC there's a Cheat Engine out to bypass all that unnecessary grinding, if you want to

Doing some(the gold exlamation mark side quests),not many. Game hands out xp and gear like candy.
I love the look of all the gear so far. Sometimes it feels like theres more gear here than Monster Hunter.

Fam bought it, but I got the chance to play the intro...
Holy shit. Assassin's Creed has come a long way. Gonna need to buy this myself.

By Lunatic Go To PostDamn, he is way off.
Around 37 hours into Odyssey and level 30 or 31, I think I'm good. I've gotten my money's worth, I feel like I've experienced everything the game has to offer and the story/plot/characters aren't interesting enough to continue. Might pick it back up in the future. Had a good time though.
critiques, thoughts and hopes for the next big change up for the franchise, probably after the next one:
-Cut the size down. Cities don't really feel special in this one like Alexandria did in Origins or Italy in the Ezio games. Caves and tombs feel like they're procedurally generated.Take some inspiration from Watch Dogs 2, the world in that game was really memorable. I probably haven't seen 40% fo the map but I don't feel encouraged to really explore what's out there because I feel it's going to largely look like what I've already seen.
-I've had my fill of clearing/infiltrating bases
-Combat needs to look and feel better. Better animation work would help here, I enjoyed it more than Origins but it's still not good. Combat is brain dead. I played on hard and 99% of the time I'm mashing R1 then spamming dodge without much thought or parrying with an extremely large timing window and occasionally get hit with a bad hitbox. Add a stamina, add real combos, something. Maybe cut down on the different types of weapons too because the difference when using a staff/axe/spear is pretty negligible.
-The mercenary, cultists and conquest systems were half baked. If you're going to include them, flesh them out more or size them down considerably.
-Ship combat is better than Origin's but still isn't fun.
-Terrible loading times on console.
-Make the main campaign feel special. Add some set pieces or something. mission design wise, side missions and main quests were identical:find this person/location, clear this base/kill these enemies and loot this chest. Origins had the same issue. Maybe later down the line, the mission structure changes up or there's some cool set pieces but I didn't experience any in my time.
Lastly, the last two entries of the franchise of the series, which I feel are the best in the series feel like they're following other games too much. AC basically pioneered modern open world design so hopefully AC 2021 has those same ambitions. The last two have been mimicking modern WRPGs too much(even though I like Odyssey and Origins more than the Witcher 3 for example) and losing the franchise's identity a bit.
These are a lot of complaints but I largely enjoyed my time with the game and don't regret my purchase one bit.
