Refused - "Elektra"

Refused recently announced an extensive summer tour, and now we know why: the hardcore titans will release a new album, their first since 1998’s earth-shattering The Shape of Punk to Come, on June 30th through Epitaph Records.

Entitled Freedom, the 10-track album was produced by Nick Launay (Arcade Fire, Kate Bush, Nick Cave), with additional contributions from Shellback, a Swedish producer who’s written smash singles for the likes of Britney Spears and Taylor Swift.

In anticipation, Refused has let loose the album’s opening track, “Elektra”, which you can stream below.

“It’s not a reunion anymore,” explained frontman Dennis Lyxzén in a statement. “This is one of the most radical things we’ve ever done, both musically and lyrically.” Added drummer David Sandström, “Nobody wanted us to fuck with the image of the band who makes a great album and splits up. Nobody wanted us to dilute it. That actually provoked us.”
