... yeah... not sure what I was really expecting overall.
Felt like a Marvel movie (tm) and I'm not sure that's a good thing.

I thought it was pretty fun, but I'm a fan of the MCU (seriously, it's an impressive idea/concept) anyway.
Most Marvel films have problems in the 3rd act, they really need to fix that lol. Ultron was funny (at times) but I felt they should have made him a lot more intimidating and actually pose a threat to the Avengers. Hopefully Thanos will do that for me, as the villains so far have been poop.

Thanos looks too cartoonish, there's no way he can look menacing on screen IMO. And is he a purple space monkey? I can't tell
I thought the movie was a bit underwhelming, it was engaging from start to finish and I had fun watching it (as expected) but I dunno, the plot was too similar to 1, and Ultron looked bland as hell from a design stand point.
Loved Spader's performance and the Russian twins <3
it's still the Iron Man show, isn't it? Such is the curse of RDJ :p

By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostI love the look of Thanos. Infinity War can't come soon enough.how powerful is Thanos? What can he do exactly with that gauntlet of his?
obviously I'm not expecting anything wildly imaginative like the stuff you find in Jojo, but ffs give me something utterly devastating for once. Each villain can be beaten by just pounding them to death :/
I mean take a look at this guy from Steel Ball Run and tell me how the fuck can you STOP this motherfucker?
Valentine's Stand and spirit, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (or D4C), enables him access at any time to any number of alternate worlds/universes/dimensions; where if desired he may swap bodies with his counterparts, affording him a pseudo-immortality.
he was basically Angier from The Prestige lol

The gauntlet by itself can't do much AFAIK, but collecting all 6 infinity stones will make him the strongest being in the universe.
Huge spoiler if you don't want to potentially have the next films ruined. This is what Kevin Feige said along with what I think it will mean for the films.basically there are two gauntlets, Thanos was seen wearing one and the other is in Odin's vault. I reckon this means Thanos of course will try and get the stones and then one of the Marvel heroes will use the second gauntlet and try and collect the remaining stones to defeat Thanos

cool, but how, exactly? What can it do! :o
By Yurt Go To Postcool, but how, exactly? What can it do! :o
all the stones have their own powers and properties. So putting them all together should allow him to be pretty destructive. I can't remember if they have explaned the powers of the stones in the movies when they have appeared

The color/name arrangement is different in the MCU, but that's the gist of it.
People really have no idea what Wakanda is if they thought that was it in the movie. The Avengers would have been incinerated if they brought that mess to Wakanda. It's not like you can just walk or even fly in.
Not even a complicated movie, but it's seems like a lot of people didn't pay attention and just waited for the explosions.

I was pleasantly surprised actually. The jokes were a bit hit and miss. Some were really forced, others out of character but also a lot of good ones. The big fights were alright. I enjoyed myself watching it.
That mid credits scene tho, has got me really really hyped for Phase 3, along with seeing the New Avengers in action.

Goddammit. Wrong thread always gets me.
By Yurt Go To PostSay what nowyou know, how Black Widow was hogging the ball and not passing it and Thor was shooting really poor in the field in the 2nd half
I watched it again this afternoon. Slightly different experience when watching with a less initiated crowd, which I almost never do.
I must vow to never see a daytime showing again. I don't know what I was thinking. Children chattering and crying and constantly getting up to go to the bathroom, people falling asleep and snoring, people walking out 5-10 minutes before the credits even roll. Savages.

Just saw it tonight.
Good overall, but not great. I feel like they're trying to cram too many characters and subplots into a single movie, and it feels extremely unfocused as a result.
Ultron was a forgettable villain compared to Loki.

I said it from the beginning in the NBA thread but the first one was better. This one was just packed with too much shit. Whedon was trying to do too much, like he was trying to get everything out of his system at once before leaving Marvel.
The action was great, I just didn't feel very invested in it.

By Forever Go To PostWhat was the point of Thor in the pool?yeah that was just as stupid as it was in LOST http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Locke%27s_drug
he saw a vision of the future or something and realized that Iron Man is right

I liked it, eventhough I thought the first was better. It lacked the charm of the first one, plus I had zero expectations going into the first whereas this one came with a ton.
I thought it felt like a setup movie to the third and that Ultron wasn't as threatening as, you know, giant aliens coming through a wormhole in the sky over NYC.

Movie was alright. I'm glad Whedon is gone he doesn't know how to write for cinema. I'll say more when I get back to LA in a few hours.
By KingGondo Go To PostUltron's design was simply lacking. He wasn't menacing in the slightest.

Because he wasn't supposed to be. He was a sentient robot who looked upon humans on the earth like we do cockroaches and spiders in your house.
Not to invalidate anyone's critiques here, but the problem with the movie without even getting into the actual details of it is that it's yet another rendition of the man vs machine trope. From Terminator to I-Robot, there are only so many ways you do it before it becomes humdrum.

It was pretty obvious they were trying, and it just didn't work for me.

I don't get what his perspective as a character has to do with whether the character design succeeded or failed.
Ultron was just... I don't know. I felt like they were going for menacing but cut more of his dialogue or dumbed it down.
The motivations behind how Ultron came to be just felt weak. One of the things that I felt like the first movie did really well was bring an established presence in Loki from the prior movies by having him be the catalyst for the evildoers plot. It felt like a natural story progression, whereas Ultron just felt like another evil guy with vague ambitions and reasonings for wanting to destroy the world.
they weren't trying to make him menacing or else they wouldn't have casted Spader and have him do his usual thing
Ultron was menacing in the comics.
and you'll find plenty more.
It's a shame because he's easily one of the coolest looking comic villains. They made him look way too...human?

haha Christ, what a pile of shit that was
The more I think about it the more I think winter soldier and guardians of the Galaxy were better films.
And thanos is a Titan, tier 1 power status, without the guantlets there is like a handful of people who can beat him, with them there is no one I believe.

By Dark PhaZe Go To PostShocked by the hate. I absolutely loved it.Didn't hate it, it was just extremely meh.
It's not a bad film imo but any stretch, I need to watch it more maybe at the bottom of the tier one marvel movies? more than likely tier 2
i dont understand how you could possibly think Avengers 1 was a better film
this has the best action of pretty much every marvel movie ever...if you want better story and intricate dialogue there is always fanfic
action was good as fuck

The mouth thing was super weird. There was a scene inside the ship where the facial animations were so Spader-esque that it took me out for a minute. I always felt like mouthless robots were always more menacing.
I didn't hate it either and thoroughly enjoyed it in parts, I just didn't think it had the charm and gravitas of the first. Loki was a great villain.

By KingGondo Go To PostDidn't hate it, it was just extremely meh.I'm at the point now where I think most of Marvel's productions are blase and the good movies are almost accidents. This isn't any exception. It's okay, but it's both too crowded and really dull in spots.
I think I'm just really done with their brand of sterile, insipid action movies. They're all the same, they're largely just okay (I only truly like Iron Man, Guardians and Winter Soldier). Ant Man looks bad, I have no faith Civil War is going to be good with all the characters that they're cramming in.

Saw Winter Soldier right before Age of Ultron. AoU really paled in comparison.
