The Ashes start soon, and while I don't expect it to be massively talked about on here, it will probably be enough to get on the nerves of the non-cricket guys elsewhere if we don't have a thread for it.
So, here it is.
Err. Fuck Australia.

Kidding. I have no idea what's going on. Will probably watch, though.

I'm not a player, though. :\
Seriously though, I don't think I've followed cricket properly since the Ponting/Warne/McGrath/etc era. I feel I'm not prepared for tomorrow.

Steve Smith is so weird
He carries himself like Phil Jones, but is brilliant. Shame, preferred it when he was brass :P

By chandlerparsons Go To PostThis thread is going to go well. Maybe real Australians can post when they've woken up. ^^'Do we have any Aussies in the NBA thread? Don't think there are any in the football thread.
Been a while since I followed cricket. Used to watch a lot in the Wasim Akram, Saeed anwar days (from Pakistan), but just haven't watched a ton ever since.
I'll probably catch this when it starts

By Laboured Go To PostYeah we won't do very well but what the fuck I've got nothing better to watch.Depends what england, and what Australia turn up.
The England that found it fun to fight against the kiwis? will put up a fight with real chance of an upset.
The Australia that was ruthless against India and England? Eh no, this could be done.
The England that turned up for the world cup? do we really have to play 5 games of this shit?
The Australia that turned up last time and forgot how to play pace bowling? Oh god this is going to be excruciating to watch.
I think everyone acknowledges its Australia's series to lose. But this isn't the team of the late 90's / early 00's.
That said, Stark looks... really good. And.... thats not good for England. If Johnson also hits his pace...? This could be a bowlers series.
Only Australian sporting team I can't stand. Not sure what it is about the baggy green that makes people become unlikable assholes
But they're playing England so I'm torn

Aye. Mostly dickheads.
Langer was a chippy over-compensating little bloke.Hayden was a buffoon and a pretty belligerent and sweary arse for someone preoccupied with faith. Warne was a git. Is a git. Symonds was a yobbo. His adoptive dad was my French teacher and he came to school once and just spent his time pelting kids with tennis balls. Ponting was a thin-skinned arse. Probably still is. Fleming loved himself. Gilchrist was a mouthy, pious little hypocrite. Never liked McGrath. Never liked Waugh. Lee was insufferable for the longest time (Ganguly taking the piss one afternoon was just the finest moment), but fair play.
Australian tennis players (current ones particularly) sometimes have a knobhead streak. Rugby league doesn't matter on an international level, but they're consistently knobheads too.

The "baggy green" is hyporcitical, but so is every professional sport.

I'll let mighty, mighty, terrifically fragile England do the talking.
FitzSimons just mentioned the notable lack of hype. He's right innit.
Decent day for England, looked like a collapse was imminent before Root and Ballance provided some stability. Too early and even to call either team favourites for this Test match I think
Just a couple of wickets now until we get the classic 'let the tail-enders pile on 150 runs' nonsense that we've become so adept at

By tri_willy Go To PostEngland got the advantage this test
Should be in a position where its impossible for Australia to successfully chase our total. 400 lead )if we get there) should be enough but its tighter than it should have been.
shit display by our batsmen. johnson topping the scores every blue moon, watson solidifying himself as the master of LB's, mediocrity strikes again
By tri_willy Go To Postfor some reason i can foresee a drawHow big of a lead / how much time do you think Australia will need?
