Amazon Game Studios’ hero sports brawler Breakaway is essentially canceled but may reemerge in some form later, two people familiar with plans for the game tell Kotaku.
No layoffs are planned at the moment for the internet shipping giant’s gaming arm, but the game is on “indefinite hiatus,” a source said.

By Grimsat Go To PostI’m not sure why do they even want to get into game making.Isn't everything they're making (have been making, I guess now) multiplayer only, gaas-type stuff? They probably just see it a stream of constant revenue when most other things they're investing in (Kindle, Echo) are one time purchases.

Between this and Battleborn’s official death, it kinda seems like the whole “multiplayer hero game” space is hitting a saturation point. There’s only so many of these games that the average person can get invested in at once.

I feel like I always heard about this game but nothing was ever really shown off when I looked it up after the initial reveal.
They are probably retooling to make a battle royal game, which will arrive too late.
With any of these game types, the first few big players get the audience and then its scraps.

This is why I always roll my eyes when people suggest Apple getting into game dev. People see "Large company + lots of money + ability to attract devs = success at game dev" when there's so much more that goes into it. I don't think simply being a side focus out is enough to succeed at game dev
By LFMartins86 Go To PostHow along has Amazon been trying to get into gaming and with nothing to show for it.
Hmmm? Given Amazon has Twitch and Amazon Pay, they're already one of the biggest players in gaming.
