By lawlohwhat Go To PostYea it looks good. I still have to drive a GTI too. I got a great offer on a wrx yesterday but I'm probably gonna wait it out for a while. I'm probably an inch too tall for the premium/limited wrx because of that fucking moon roof. Plus, hatchbacks are the shit.Unless you need a car ASAP then there's no need to rush it given that there's good competition coming out.
By Facism Go To PostHopefully getting my mg back today after head gasket and valve seal replacements. So much money -_-Piiiics!
By reilo Go To PostUnless you need a car ASAP then there's no need to rush it given that there's good competition coming out.My car is on the verge of completely shitting itself but I think it'll hold together for a while.
Drove the GTI today and it was pleasant. Zero body roll, minimal road/wind noise compared to the wrx, and the torque surprised me even though I knew it was beastly going in. Unfortunately they didn't have a 6 speed in stock so I didn't get to experience those tall 1st/2nd gears first hand. Brakes also sort of felt mushy, but it wasn't an SE so I dunno.
Certainly is a more practical car for my needs and the interior is leagues ahead. Something about that AWD tho...

It's just a MG ZR Trophy II SE. Nothing exciting outside of it's chavvy exterior.
When i get it back tomorrow i'll take a few. Wish i had my phone on me when they took the head off. Valve exhausts were a fucking mess but thankfully no damage to anything outside of the actual seal.
this garage is fucking ridiculous. It's been 8 days since i took it in and it's still not sorted. Mechanic sorting my timing and finishing up has a chest infection so LOL he's off sick for the rest of the week. Apparently nobody else at the establishment can do the job because he already started.
How these guys are still in business i don't know. Last time i take the old man's advice on where to take my car for serious work.

I've got the itch for a new car again...and I'm really trying to fight it off. Especially since my Jag's lease will be done in 9 months. I should just man up and wait. But I'm thinking already "what can I sell my M56S for?"

Prices on C63 AMG Coupe's have come down quite a bit. I love that insane 6.2L behemoth in it.
....
I can get virtually even trade on one for my car.

By AlphaSnacks Go To PostI want a coupe again. And the C63 is temping as fuck. That interior is crappy though and the transmission isn't all that from what I've heard.
Alright guys. Talk me out of getting this for the holidays. I've been coveting it for like, 5 months now, and it's super dumb. Completely impractical car.

Ain't talking you out of shit. Get it. Back seat is pretty solid.
I got a few Hellcats in my area that I see every other day...unreal sound.
By reilo Go To PostThat interior is crappy though and the transmission isn't all that from what I've heard.
The interior is...tolerable. Not super great, but still well built and won't rattle. Transmission isn't as bad as people make it out, it's not DCT, but it's not your typical slushbox. It's a grade below the current crop of ZF 8-speeds. I'd need to test drive the car a few times, though.
By Smokey Go To PostWait. The interior of the C class is "crappy"?Of the outgoing model? Crappy might be a strong word, but it's not that aesthetically pleasing. It's well built like Alpha says, but the dash looks bulky and busy and doesn't flow very well.
The new one is fucking astounding though.

I thought you (and Alpha) were talking about the new model C63. Was gonna say I must be losing my shit because the new C interior is head and shoulders above anything else in it's class.
Guys some advice, so I have a sprog on the way (december) however still want a relatively quick four/five seater sports car.
I've basically cut my options down to an M4 and GTR which would you go for and why?
My heart is telling me GTR but my head M4, I hate the fact turbo's are now used by the M division but I understand why that decision was made.
Have Alpina done anything with the four series as yet? I'm hearing very worrying things about recent German build quality as Audi, Merc and BM are all pushing out crazy numbers compared to 10 years ago.

Breh look what we wrote. I mentioned the 6.2L motor, coupe bodystyle, and how those cars are dropping in prices. There is no 6.2L or coupe (yet) in the current C63 AMG...and prices sure as shit aren't dropping. :p
New C-Class interior is insanely gorgeous. Everyone knows this. Makes current BMWs look like cheap shit.

Don't buy a GTR. It has aged, and its interior and refinement have never been good to begin with - it's fairly loud inside. Plus the backseat is extremely cramped, and loading a child (sprog? wat? LOL) into the car would be a nightmare. I like the M4, but the options on it are massive ripoff. A lot of them are shipping with some pretty crippling issues and the BMW M forums are lit up with threads and cars being returned back to the dealers and lemoned.
I anticipate by December a lot of these issues should hopefully be resolved...but with BMW you never know.
My personal opinion, get a new AMG C63 (coupes will be out shortly and revealed in 3 weeks).
AMG C63 vote here as well. It won't be as good of a track car as the M4, but I don't get the impression you'll be using it for that?

Well fuk you too
I was whipping around my friend's 335i Coupe 6MT yesterday and really found myself remembering how great manual BMWs could be. I really miss owning an MT. :\
The manual in my M3 is sublime in the right conditions like going up and down the CA1 with good traffic. But downtown SF? Ugh.
Are the German cars that are sold in the US from a different factory than their European counterparts? Because here in Europe Audi, BMW and Mercedes are always high on the list of reliable and good quality cars.
I'm always surprised to hear how the quality of those cars are considered to be worse in the US.

All of the proper-tier German cars come from the German factories. Some of the lower-tier entry models (1-series, CLA, etc) I believe are not built in Germany. My M3, for example, is most definitely made in Regensburg.
However... American roads are shit. Absolute shit. They are bad. Pothole infested hell holes. Especially in bigger city with larger commuter bases.

I like the American styling scene though, a lot more sensible than the Japanese. Here the market is so small so you're afraid to alienate potential buyers if you style the car. Many people don't seem to appreciate if you put on some nice aftermarket parts.
By rossonero Go To PostBecause here in Europe Audi, BMW and Mercedes are always high on the list of reliable and good quality cars. .All three manufacturers are towards the bottom of the reliability index from the UK. Audi is 34th, BMW is 28th, and Mercedes is 32nd.
The belief that Audis, BMWs, and Mercs are reliable overseas is a myth perpetuated by their fanboys. There is one truly remarkable German sedan that is head and shoulders above all when it comes to reliability: Mercedes-Benz E-Class (naturally aspirated motors). Runner up: C-Class (NA motors).
That's it.
That's it.
I tried to find the reliability index for my country, but I just found a survey done by the biggest car paper about customer satisfaction in regards to the product, the retailers and the shops. 26 brands were included and only models between 2008-2014. Almost 17 000 people responded and this is their top 10:
Autoindex 2015
1. Lexus 897
2. Subaru 867
3. Honda 864
4. BMW 862
5. Toyota 855
6. Volvo 854
7. Audi 852
8. Mercedes 844
9. Mazda 844
10. Mini 843
This survey can of course be a little bit biased, because everybody feels the need to love what they spent a lot of money on, but the Japanese and the Germans have always been considered reliable here. And Volvo of course, being that this is Volvo land.

My dad drove Nissan since I think '97. Went from the Almera -> Almera Pulsar Sport -> Almera Tino -> X-Trail -> Qashqai. And now all of a sudden he bought a Mercedes A180. I'm still getting used to the low seats after so many years of SUV/Mini SUV with the last two cars. It drives lovely though. I don't really understand why the navigation system isn't one that sinks into the dashboard though. It comes across as cheap that it's just straight up your dashboard. Saw some more expensive Mercedes cars and they had the same. Audi does that better.
This is what I mean.

Audi's slowly doing the same thing now. They're ditching the sliding out screens because the motors were very susceptible to break down and get stuck.
By lawlohwhat Go To PostYea not to mention it being a glowing red x for shithead thieves
No one's going to literally rip that out of a car. It'll destroy the entire screen and unit.
That screen is useless for anything but that model of car. The reason they steal dashes is because they can be re-purposed for any head unit with a DIN.
The voice activation of that navigation system works pretty good by the way, so that's a positive at least.
Too bad it doesn't connect with an iPod though. Can't properly play music in the car. There's probably some way around it if you buy something for it. But since it's not my car I'm gonna leave that be. That's up to my dad. When we drive to Germany next week I'll just put on my headphones.

I have an iPod Classic, doesn't have bluetooth. After my previous post I did a quick Google search and noticed that bluetooth streaming should work. So my dad's iPod Touch should probably be able to work that way. I'll try it with him.
New Honda Acuraord?
I'm pretty impressed.

It does have USB. But the Mercedes software doesn't recognize ipods. In 2013 some guy claimed that Mercedes said they were working on an update. But I guess they just never fixed it.
awwwww yiss should be getting my car back today. Reilo mate i'll see if i can get you some pictures tomorrow, surrounded by my pear and fig trees.
@Linius. I have to use a double-ended 5ml jack into the aux port on my stereo to use the ipod :(

Can we take a moment and discuss what went through Chrysler's mind when they named one of their packages the "Scat Pack"?
By Granadier Go To PostCan we take a moment and discuss what went through Chrysler's mind when they named one of their packages the "Scat Pack"?
Scat was a company in the 60s that collaborated with Dodge on making hotter performance parts that could be installed at the dealer when taking delivery of the car. So the term "Scat Pack" was born before all of us were born. They simply brought the name back.

By Granadier Go To PostSure, but they now have a car model named after obscure gag porn. The car is named after the advertising of the late 60s to early 70s by the Ross Roy advertising group and Chrysler for their performance cars, similar to Plymouth's Rapid Transit System. The Scat Pack Challenger is not the first car that bore the Scat Pack designation that would be this:
69 Super Bee Scat Pack Spring Special.
