By HonestVapes Go To PostZabo needs to start the equivalent of a fitted kitchen business but for PC set ups.No joke, I would pay someone to make my pc setup clean.
Imagine the shit he could do if you gave him the funds.
I think back to his first venture with the dual monitors, the arm he had the 240hz monitor on to pull down in front of the ultrawide.
I reckon he could definitely make something so that the ultrawide could slide backwards and disappear into the wall behind it. Then have the 240hz slide upwards out of a hidden compartment in the desk.

My dream is to one day have everything motorized and voice controlled via Echo.
"Alexa, switch to Star Citizen mode."
"Alexa, engage Apex demon mode."
"Alexa, activate seat dildo, maximum speed, maximum penetration."

Oof this 3090 dumps a ton of heat into my room when playing COD, even undervolted. The 4090/4090Ti is going to be a literal heater.

Pro tip for my fellow UK bros:
Save money on your gas bill this winter by overvolting your 30/40 series GPU to heat your house and play games.

The QD-OLED is beautiful. I am not in the darkest room ever right now or with amazing light control, but I still feel like the blacks are pretty damn black. Maybe not quite as much as my tv, but.... It's one hell of a change going to this. I even played csgo on it today (at 1080p) and it felt surprisingly great, unlike my old UW.
Not really noticing the text rendering problems. I guess i'm not very sensitive to it.

What type of games does she use it for?
Is she happy with it?
Anything in particular that she doesn’t like about it?
I’m trying to decide if I should get one or not.
By HonestVapes Go To PostWhat type of games does she use it for?She is mostly using it to play console ports like MH: Rise right now. She had some trouble getting emulators and stuff setup with those automated packages. She is pretty happy about it. I think she was worried about getting the bad fan (higher pitched noise than the "good" fan) and the fan noise, in general, is just about the only thing she has really complained about, iirc.

She is impressed with the haptic controls and the joysticks (especially compared to the Switch's). She is always impressed with how well most games run on it and really appreciates being able to play most games at high or medium settings at 60 fps.
I think she might have some quibbles with the UI but nothing major that I can remember. And that is currently receiving frequent updates from Valve, so less of an issue.
By Kibner Go To PostBasically, it's the out-of-the-house or bedtime preferred gaming device for her.Ty mate.
I’m down with Kojima’s set up. Pure functionality, nothing to distract his auteur mind.

3090 Ti FTW3 for $1200 new, direct from evga.
I’m going to ride it out with my regular 3090 but these prices are getting very tempting.

Putting it together right now, already fucked up, used the wrong screws to affix the grip, lol. No harm done, not what what those longer three black screws are for.
Are you using the default springs?
Moving the stick feels really good, the fit in my hand is pretty good, not amazing. First impression tho, will see. Might have to fiddle with the wrist rest thingie. Also, the metal base plate is like 60% of the total weight, haha.

Yeah, I think I am using the default springs. Sad to hear about the fit not being perfect. That's probably something impossible to get without 3D printing your own after multiple revisions. :( I assume the grip is too small for you? I can't remember if I messed with the wrist rest.
And, yeah, most of the weight is indeed that base plate. lol

I think I'm gonna be perfectly fine with the fit, it's not uncomfortable or anything, my hand just doesn't fully meld with the stick like you'd ideally want it to. It would've been perfect it it was 10% bigger, the upside is that all the buttons and hats are well within reach, something I've always had a problem with in the past.

The base + rubber feet are great, but I'm gonna 3D print a more compact one for my mounts. I think I can get away with plastic, if not I'm gonna switch to aluminium.
By Pedja Go To PostZabo ordering flexible filament as we speakHow naive of you to think I don't already have it. Never used it tho, my lowly Ender 3 Pro isn't really equipped to print with flexible filaments or ABS plastics. One of these years I'm def gonna upgrade, for now PLA is fine.
Base plate for the Gladiators done. thatsapenis.gif
6mm thickness with 50% infill, only flexes a little bit when slamming the joystick forward. I'll probably still swap it out for aluminium plates for maximum sturdiness at some point in the near future, but it's perfectly fine. Cable management with drag chains will be the final step of this project.

Haven't tried it myself but it's stronger than PLA and while it does require higher bed and print temps you dont need a chamber so it's more manageable than ABS.

By Kibner Go To Posti'm still super sad about the death of optane :(If it makes you feel better, it died a quick death x
By HonestVapes Go To PostIf it makes you feel better, it died a quick death xI'm just crushed because it meshed very well with my use-case. Granted, newer drives make it less of an issue, but those random read-write speeds were just absolutely perfect when compiling programs with hundreds or thousands of files, especially now that I have a 32 thread cpu to attempt to saturate it with.

How does Optane compare to the newest gen of PCIE4 NVMes?
By HonestVapes Go To PostI never much looked into it. How does Optane compare to the newest gen of PCIE4 NVMes?According to Tom's Hardware, for 4K random reads (which is about the file size I am looking at, if not even smaller), the 905p Optane from 2018 is capable of ~70,000 IOPS
Tom's Hardware
4K Random Reads (measured in IOPS)
QD1 (queue depth)
905p: 70,000
980 Pro: 25,000
WD Black SN850: 24,000
4K Random Writes (measured in IOPS)
QD1 (queue depth)
905p: 65,000
980 Pro: 76,000
WD Black SN850: 101,000
Hmm... looks like the gap has (mostly) been closed, tbh. I'm guessing these newer drives have larger RAM caches to help with writing and Optane is basically a fancy non-volatile RAM drive with a speed somewhere between SLC flash and DDR4 memory. I probably won't notice much of a difference, now that I see the numbers for myself.
e: back during NVMe PCIe3 days, the Optane had a fucking massive read advantage at any queue depth. Like, 7x higher at low queue depths and still 2x higher at higher queue depths. It also had a 2x advantage in random small writes, too.
By Laboured Go To PostHideo plsNo wonder why Japanese devs hated PC for so long
I've been running a lot of games at low or med so I can get as close to 240hz as possible on my 1440p screen. BF2042 hovers around 180 or so. Same for Halo Infinite. PUBG was actually around 200, which was surprising.
Need the 13900k and 4090 to hit and push me over.

Just play better games than will run at 240hz, mate. You know damn well 2042 is cheeks at every frame rate.

i enjoy it for what it is at this point. when i want the old bf mode/feel, i play portal.
the redesigned kalidescope and new map are great.
I had a 37'' Westinghouse back when it was cool, even that was really pushing it on how big a monitor should go IMO.
