Downloaded but have to wait until tomorrow to play because I need to wake up early and see an apartment.
Ok 2 missions in.. Pretty damn good... So far all of my fears had been put to rest, the premade characters are decent enough and the breach part of the game is awesome. Between missions you have some base stuff to do, it isn't as deep as I would like so far, but being that it is not a AAA X-Com game I can deal with it.
A lot of good ideas that seem to had come from X-Com 2 they are expanding on.. espionage stuff and what not.
The combat order thing is bit janky and takes a bit of time to get used to for long time X-Com players, I can see them really expanding on it in X-Com 3 with stats to make players get first strike stuff...
But bottomline is nobody does turn base combat like X-Com and it is really grooving right now.
Glad my first feelings were not true... we will see if it holds up after more missions and time.. but first 30 mins or so were real fun.
Also missions are fairly bite sized meaning that you don't have to have a block of two hours to play a mission... again, these are really early impressions so that might not be the case as it goes along.

As someone who didn't really play XCOM like that (only played Enemy Unknown), I'm enjoying it about 3 missions in. I'm playing on Expert and so far it seems pretty easy, so for any XCOM vets I would imagine you have to play on the hardest difficulty with either invincible or hardcore modifier enabled. The reason it's easier is obviously the alternating turns, you aren't punished as hard for putting someone in a bad position. As a strategy game noob I always had to save scum because I constantly sent my people into death traps
Just starting to get used to it... Not being able to use your agents in any order you want fucks with your Xcom mode lol
Man. This is very, very different design-wise lol
You CANNOT play passive in this. I really thought I could just keep shit sweet and only go hard in 'perfect' breaches. NOPE. Saw a bunch of aggressive enemies at the door - meh. I'll run to cover.
"fuck 12"
Two turns later Officer Obama and Officer Snek were mindcontrolled by the SAME enemy. My riot shield child was useless after being tongue snatched to the rafters. And my medic was praying in her own smoke cloud.
Maps are small. Enemies have crazy abilities. And getting linked actions are hard to come by.
I definitely fucked up my early game too by progressing (I think). Really should've stretched out the first few story missions and let unrest go a bit higher. I'm hanging for the time being, but I'm ALWAYS taking damage. Doesn't seem avoidable either. You're gonna get hit. But the lack of armor is some shit. Need cash for proper gear too. Hard balance to strike for the time being.
pro-tip: you can't hang with reinforcements. this ain't xcom 2

yeah the game really wants you to be more quick and aggressive with your playstyle.
I'm getting fucked up, but I'm still having fun. Probably gonna play XCOM 2 after this since it's on sale as well

They have done a good job of making it different game... It's a police tactics game, about breaching small rooms and areas.
I wonder if XCOM police is going to be a separate franchise in the universe

Which faction did you guys pick first? Reading people saying that Sacred Coil seems to be the hardest and I picked them to investigate first..
By aka Espi Go To PostWhich faction did you guys pick first? Reading people saying that Sacred Coil seems to be the hardest and I picked them to investigate first..Considering the game scales with you probably wise to do them first, if they are the hardest
I picked the humans first because who else is going to make a hate group that fights against their own self-interest?

nah shit running locked 144fps/1440p max-settings no problems.

Had to change my mindset up quite a bit in this. The XCom2 strategy of never letting the enemy get a real turn in (and if they do, never letting them get a good shot off) does not work for this game.
Objectives > Agent Health.
Reinforcements, area buffs, synergies - once the enemy gets cooking, you're done. Keeping the playing field even while you're able to complete objectives and moving is far more important than all that other shit.

Lmao at the subdue picture. I mean, at least it’s realistic

Not even gonna front. This is classic day one XCom. Bugs and crashes on deck.
Most are in reinforcement waves so you'll at least get a quality save. But Ironman runs are out of the question right now.

Shelter is really useful speaking of bugs. I had to evac and Cherub couldn't move for some reason despite nothing being around him. I swapped places with him, and then swapped places with an enemy who was right by the evac 2 turns later for the easy evac.
I think Zephry is my favorite to use so far. Just dash on someone and give them a superman punch and then you have the option to either move again afterwards, or parry. I prefer to parry because I also chose her upgrade to hit anyone that is in melee range so it's always an extra free hit on the enemy.

Is this a hot take?
I'm not sure what benefit you have of keeping people unconscious instead of just killing them.
I'm on the last mission of Sacred Coil and I think I have to restart the whole mission because I'm getting fucked. I spent my team up like a dumbass in wave 2 because I had someone out of position and they would have died, plus wasted my medkits.

From what I can tell, you just have to absolutely blitz the objective and take all Ls necessary even though the boss is OP.

But more people alive, greater your chance at Intel at the end of a mission. There's also weird shit like Verge's Collar ability - lets him keep Neural Network benefits from enemies even when they're knocked out.
edit: "stop resisiting" lmao
