Whelp, seems like my PC had come with a bad CPU cooler and a bad GPU. Pretty shitty but it's fixed with new parts (for free) and running well.
Putting in the new GPU alone means my system is running between 10c - 20c cooler under load (and with no instability obvs).
Fire away lads.

Ya I've never had these types of problems before so it was mildly bewildering. Obviously not massively impressed, but hard to know if I was just unlucky or otherwise. Was problem free for over 5 years up to now so I'm not too miffed.

On the bright side, good on Scan for rectifying their shit. Ideally, you never want to go through the motions of returning and having things fixed/replaced but it sounds like their customer service is good.

Has been tbh. Next day recorded delivery to wherever you want then you send the old parts back in the box you received, picked up from wherever you want, all for free. Though worth saying this is all under first year warranty so you'd expect it.
By Smokey Go To Post2080ti has shipped from EVGA lads. I paid for next day air, so I should be #blessed tomorrow.
Which model did you go for? XC or XC Ultra?
XC. afaik the difference between the two is higher clock out of the box. I'll be ocing anyway so that's never that big of a deal to me.
I traded in a bunch of one x games with the expectation that ill be getting them on PC like ffxv and wolf ii. Will probably get Wolfenstein II tom so I can experience that sweet 4k120 maxed out. Shadow of TR for HDR and it being a showcase game for all of the 20 series tech. Have access to all EA stuff due to Origin Access. Will try a bunch of HDR stuff . I want to drown in 4k60

I'm not sure on the difference in clocks but the XC Ultra is the wideboy 2.75 slot card and the XC is the sensibly sized 2 slot.
I'll be going for the XC or the XC2 when that comes out. Depends on further reviews. I'm even considering the Asus blower card, but haven't seen any reviews of it yet.

So probably slightly better cooling and clocks out of the box then, I'm guessing.

Better cooling, definitely. From what I've seen of benches so far, cooling is far from an issue with these cards though. All these 2.75 slot wide-ons seems like ridiculous overkill.

Going by the benches and perf reviews, it's looking good.
From EVGA forums (Jacob, EVGA rep)
Also an update on the preorders, all preorders (except for the FTW3 cards which will be available soon) will be shipping today in US.
Were the FTW3 cards all that on 1080ti? Remember there being some hype for them but then they weren't considered all that special when released.

Nvidia's insistence on not letting people increase Vcore will continue to be a hindrance on their GPU's OC potential far more so than the cooler.

Seasonic is always good as Kibner noted. 600W seems to be cutting it close to me assuming you plan to get the 2080ti at some point. I'd look in the ~750w area for some additional headroom.
I'm personally using an EVGA G2 1300w...a holdover from my Tri-SLI setup 4 years ago . I'll probably go down to a 850w PSU from EVGA or Seasonic.
E: you can use evga.com/power-meter and put your specs in to see the power needed. They don't have 20 series on yet. I went through it with 1080ti as place holder and it came back with 750W PSU for me.
If you are actually looking at getting a 2080 Ti with an AIO .. i'd go for something in the 750w range.

By Laboured Go To PostYeah think I read a review that said 600W is cutting it fine with these cards.
Not quite.
With an i7 8700K and a 2080Ti, power draw from the wall is roughly 500w or less going by HU's numbers. Taking into account the (in)efficiency of the PSU, that's gonna be close to 450w actualy power draw. So a quality 600w PSU should run into no issues.
However, something of note that I have read
Unfortunately, the RTX 2080 Ti combined with Vive Pro presented a surprise problem: consistent power spikes that brought our testing rig's 650W-rated power supply unit (PSU) to its knees. Replacing a PSU on our small-form-factor Falcon NW machine threw up problems during our brief five-day testing period, so we had to put this test on the backburner. Expect an update soon; we assume the 2080 Ti is a VR beast, but we'd love to confirm how it boosts, say, the sometimes clunky Fallout 4 VR. For now, let this note serve as a warning: Nvidia's assurance that 650W PSUs are sufficient for the 2080 Ti shouldn't be taken as gospel.https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/09/nvidia-rtx-2080-and-2080-ti-review-a-tale-of-two-very-expensive-graphics-cards/
I personally wouldn't use a 600w PSU on a 2080ti rig. And you don't want to get a 600w PSU, get into VR, and then potentially have to get a new one down the line.
I always say don't cheap out on a PSU or MB. If you get more than what you need at the time on a PSU, it's better than the alternative, potentially blowing your shit up for some power reqs you didn't take into account.

There's not enough information on the cause of the power spikes that Arstech experienced when using the Vive Pro, could've been caused by the Vive itself?
In any case, I'll be pairing a 2080Ti with my SF600. I'm not sweating it.
Thanks guys.
So I guess I'll go with 850 since I'll be getting aio 2080 Ti.
So many options...is there a need to get gold vs. platinum or whatevs?

600w will probably be fine.. but if your looking for a new PSU anyway i'd go higher.
If you don't want to fuss with shopping around.. just grab a SuperNOVA G3.

So I guess I'll go with 850 since I'll be getting aio 2080 Ti.

So above you can see a quick chart I created. Let's say you game 3 hours per day, 5 days a week for a full year. During gaming, you'll consume 350 Watts (= a fairly high-end setup with perhaps a bit of overclocking right?). We assume you pay 20 cents for each KWh of energy (the average going rate in the EU). As you can see, from Bronze to Platinum the difference really is to give or take 6 euros at best for over a thousand hours of gaming. That's a full year calculation. Overall, my advice, go with silver or gold if priced nicely, the Platinum power supplies often carry a big price premium. I do want to state though that efficiency also says something about build quality. Follow your instinct I'd say. Now, this chart was based on gaming, of course, if you'd have your PC active 24/7, you'll want an efficient as possible PSU! We spotted this 850 model for 135 EURO the product might feel on the pricey side, but it is well worth that money for the warranty, efficiency and silent operation alone. Looks, acoustics, and quality matter and again, that extremely nice 10-year warranty is just awesome. As far as the ODM goes, this Corsair design was outsourced to what seems to be a CWT origin.https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/corsair_rm850x_(2018)_power_supply_review,8.html
