that's not gonna help me at all on a plane or in a country i have no data plan in.
By Doncicic Go To Postthat's not gonna help me at all on a plane or in a country i have no data plan in.I just feel like the very specific scenario of needing your entire album collection for when you might travel to a country that doesn't support International data and can't easily obtain a foreign SIM with is not worth spending the extra $350, and the people who can justify It don't really care about $350.
But, i don't ever leave North America and don't take pictures.
i live in a non-eu country so i have data exactly nowhere. i fly on average two times a week and spend 60% of my year in various countries so yeah, i take the local space i can get.
By reilo Go To PostWait, the bands in the picture are from Hermés… which is a Paris based company that's been around for almost 200 years. Gaby, pls. This is your fault. Can’t spend 20 Gs on a Birkin bag so here’s a watch strap for you peasants
man, the Axon 7 still hasn't been beaten as far as value compared to what was available on the high end when its out.
Also, can we not call SoC's with heat pipes "liquid cooled"?

@diehard, do you recommend the google mesh network extender thingies? I got shitty wifi in my room that's like 15 ft away from the router. Speeds drop from 90mbps to 20mpbs
By alt sy Go To Post@diehard, do you recommend the google mesh network extender thingies?Yeah, i think all the mesh network systems are pretty good actually. If you want more advanced features i believe the Orbi is the one to go with, but i think they are a bit more expensive.. and ugly.
Can't go wrong with any of them. Find the cheapest one you can, you just need a base node and an extender node.
By diehard Go To PostYeah, i think all the mesh network systems are pretty good actually. Google is the cheapest but still quality. Orbi is expensive but allows for lots of customization. Eero is also expensive and doesn't allow much customization (can be a good thing for people who don't want to fiddle with their router).
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostMy 6s is three years old this december. I should upgrade, right?Yes. OLED, baby.
By reilo Go To PostYes. OLED, baby."OLED, baby" is such a 3 year old phrase
By Gaby Go To Post"OLED, baby" is such a 3 year old phraseHe's upgrading from a 3 year old phone?
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostMy 6s is three years old this december. I should upgrade, right?6S, yes. 6S+, you could probably go for one more year. The 6S is still a pretty great phone, but I upgraded last year for easier form factor, better battery life and because I could buy a shit ton of iPhones and flip them. Resale and scalp market for the S series this time around won't be as good as last year. Especially with the XR coming around.
I got around 500USD or so for my 6S+ last year when I upgraded to a X. You could probably sell it on craigslist for at least 250-300 USD depending on the condition and storage. The 6S is a great starting phone for kids going to school and needing a smartphone so I'm sure a lot of parents in San Jose would probably buy it off you.
As much as I like the gold color, I'll pass on the XS/Max and get a few Apple Watch Series 4.
By reilo Go To Post256GB XS pre-ordered. I went three years between upgrades so this will fee crazy.I thought you got a X last year. No XS MAX?
Yeah I had to get the 6S+, upgraded for better for factor and same great battery. Couldn't do the regular 6S battery and the Max is too big for me as well.
You are in the Bay Area now right? Just do it for cash and avoid the fees, tons of people can buy from you.
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostI'm only seeing ~$170 for the 6s on eBay. Feelsbadman.https://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=iPhone%206S&sort=rel

I remember when people laughed at Samsung for the S2 and the Note series. 'Those phones are too big, they'll never take off. iPhone is the perfect size'.

I have the X and it is nothing groundbreaking. It is just Apple perfection. Everything works well and you either like ios or you dont.
By reilo Go To PostiOS12 runs really great on my 6S.
Need to give a download on my 6plus. As long as safari and music works well then I am happy.
It's just so much smoother, and apps load much quicker now.
My battery still sucks but that's just battery life.

By reilo Go To Postdiehard: You know of any USB-C hubs that support 4k/60hz?Yep. Rather than list a bunch, is it a Displayport over USB-C or Thunderbolt 3? Do you need multiple displays, or any other things (Ethernet, Power, USB-A)? Are you connecting to a Displayport monitor or HDMI monitor?
Displayport monitor but HDMI would do as well.
Don't care about the rest, but two display support would be nice.
Don't care about the rest, but two display support would be nice.
If you really don't care about the rest, it's best just to get a USB-C to HDMI/DP cable. Cheap, and will work without any little finicky problems sometimes hubs can give you. USB-C (with MST) only has the bandwidth to do one 4k@60hz alongside USB 2.0 data, so most hubs opt for a lower res/refresh with USB 3.0 data. There are some 4k@60hz USB-C docks that will do it via "Displaylink" that requires a driver installed on your device and essentially compresses the data and sends it over the cable to be decompressed, i would probably avoid those. Charging over USB-C can be a bit finicky too, certain devices only support certain hubs.
Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C can do multiple 4k connections. If you have it, something like https://www.amazon.com/CalDigit-Thunderbolt-Portable-Charging-Ethernet/dp/B079H5B31Q is a good cheap option (ones with charging run at least twice that much)
You have a MBP don't you?

2018 MBP 13" no Touchbar
It's really if you want to rock two monitors you can do DP->USB-C but then what do you do to charge your laptop?

Those are 2x Thunderbolt 3 ports, so you have a lot of options. That thing i linked should work nice, just use one port on the MBP for power, and the other for that dock. No need to spend the extra $100 or whatever just so you don't have to plug in 2 cables IMO.

Sabri Haddouche tweeted a proof-of-concept webpage with just 15 lines of code which, if visited, will crash and restart an iPhone or iPad. Those on macOS may also see Safari freeze when opening the link.
The code exploits a weakness in iOS’ web rendering engine WebKit, which Apple mandates all apps and browsers use, Haddouche told TechCrunch. He explained that nesting a ton of elements — such astags — inside a backdrop filter property in CSS, you can use up all of the device’s resources and cause a kernel panic, which shuts down and restarts the operating system to prevent damage.
[...]
TechCrunch tested the exploit running on the most recent mobile software iOS 11.4.1, and confirm it crashes and restarts the phone. Thomas Reed, director of Mac & Mobile at security firm Malwarebytes confirmed that the most recent iOS 12 beta also froze when tapping the link.
The lucky whose devices won’t crash may just see their device restart (or “respring”) the user interface instead.
[...]
The good news is that as annoying as this attack is, it can’t be used to run malicious code, he said, meaning malware can’t run and data can’t be stolen using this attack. But there’s no easy way to prevent the attack from working.
