Fuck, maybe second is 70 mph? I can't remember whether it was second or third that let me merge on the interstate with no issue.
E: went to pick up food and second gear in a base 718 tops out around 70 mph
E2: and confirmed first tops out around 45 mph

yeah that was the criticism, that you never have to leave 2nd gear if you're just driving around.

me either, i couldve been describing it wrong lol, not a manual driver
By Smokey Go To Postme either, i couldve been describing it wrong lol, not a manual driverIf it helps you to contextualize driving a manual, in my day to day driving, I usually use five of the six gears, but that is because I typically up-shift around 3-4k rpm when accelerating casually (2-3k rpm when warming up the engine) and always down-shift to around 1.8k rpm when cruising. Sixth gear is used when cruising at 45 mph or faster.
Only ever have to shift into third on heavy acceleration when getting onto the toll roads and interstates. =/
By No Love Go To PostIf you buy that without a manual, it's pointless.
I don't feel like paying for the MT mark up on R8s, tbh. Also, it'd be a business related purchase.
More importantly, if I bought a manual, it'd be on a smaller M2 sized car or 400Z, something like that. Manual exotics are a nightmare from everything my friends have told me.

Pass the sauce
Not really a fan of its looks.
It looks like a 370Z with a 240Z body kit you'd find at SEMA or some other custom car show.
Interior doesn't look like it changed much either, the AC vents are literally the same one as the 350Z. And no, I dunno why those AC vents stick out so much that I remember how they look even though I've only driven like maybe 5 350/370z's in it's entire lifetime lol.
It honestly just looks like a refreshed 370Z to me rather than an all-new car. π€·ββοΈπ€·ββοΈπ€·ββοΈ
Baby F-Type nickname has been duly revoked.
It's a "prototype" so I expect them to correct that hideous front bumper and make it more mainstream and tweak the interior.

You expect too much. A Nismo bumper might look better, but aftermarket may have to do some fixin there...I hate that grille.
But I like basically everything else.

Eh, it's something. Jong is right, it looks like a refreshed 370z with some modern tach/dash stuff going on.

It is.
It's the same chassis, hence why the roofline remains identical. Like the 350Z to the 370Z, this is a heavily evolved car.

Yeah it's the FM platform right? They've been using it almost 20 years. They really chose the wrong color to introduce it in. I feel like they should've used white or multiple colors.
I do like how the rear looks like a 300ZX though. π
Tbh I'm actually fine with this. I just think the piss looking color doesn't help sell the car well tho lmao.
But if they price it aggressively, like the twin-turbo V6 400HP version over $35K and a 4-cyl turbo around 300hp under $35K, they'd not only have a Supra killer but a Toyobaru killer as well.

I like everything but the grill here, and if they price it a bit cheaper than the Supra it's a winner.

It sounds⦠so awful. It has to be those new particulate filters, right? But I don't think North American versions have it. I've seen Euro owners replace their exhaust outright and the filter still fucks with the exhaust tone something awful.
What the hell? It sounds horrible. That is a shame, everything else on paper seems incredible.
Anybody here in San Diego? There's a nice 2014 R8 V10. I've missed out on 3 here in FL that are just selling within DAYS of listings. I found a white one out there and it's the right price and great options.
Curious if someone could look at it for me?

By No Love Go To PostI can look at it for you, I'm in San Diego.
I messaged the guy and he hasn't gotten back to me. *shrug*
I found a 2012 with Fabspeed, ECU Tune, ALL updated maint. performed, new brakes/rotors, tires, new AC Compressor (common failure), now oil pump (common low point), detailed with ceramic, etc. It's a 2012, so that means it's single clutch. But, it has the full Huracan tune with the Unitronic making 620HP. :O
Hopefully the exhaust isn't too nuts, after all, I am adding this to a fleet so I need customers to be happy.
I'm not even gonna bother posting specs or whatever. I hope this thing flops for being as hideous as it is. BMW can't be rewarded for this.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostGrille so ugly that even the press shots have a front plate on it.Press shots normally have a plate on.
By Christberg Go To PostThat's⦠impressively ugly. Drivetrain is great though, people love it in the X3MThe S58 is a godly motor. 650 whp/700+ wtq just with an E85 tune and downpipes. It's even better than the already monstrous S55.
The AWD M3/M4 is going to be doing low 10's/high 9's with just E85, downpipes and slicks.
But it's a shame they're so goddamned ugly. Aftermarket bumper companies are going to make a fortune.
By reilo Go To PostWho do I blame, the Chinese and American markets for wanting this or BMW for actually doing it?

If it wasn't for the exhaust, I would never know from looking at the back-end that it was supposed to be a high-performance car. Doesn't look sporty to me at all.
Eh, tbf the prior M3/M4 rears didn't do much to differentiate to make it look super sporty. If anything the subtlety in design changes where they make it aggressive just right was the appeal. If anything, I'd argue this newest one is too aggro.
In its most basic configuration, the ID.4 is equipped with an 82-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor mounted over the rear axle. It zaps the rear wheels with 201 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque, and Volkswagen estimates it will deliver up to 250 miles of driving range. Here's a fun bit of trivia: The ID.4 will be the first rear-engined, rear-wheel drive Volkswagen sold in America since the Vanagon retired in 1991.
vailable in all 50 states, the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 carries a base price of $39,995, though many buyers will be eligible to claim local and federal incentives. That figure corresponds to a rear-wheel drive Pro model. The all-wheel drive version will arrive later in 2021 with a $43,695 base price, a heated windshield, a trailer hitch, and, of course, an additional electric motor. Buyers will have two option packages to choose from named Statement ($4,500) and Gradient ($1,500), respectively. The former adds an illuminated Volkswagen logo on the front end, thin strips of LEDs on either side of it, adaptive LED headlights, a fixed panoramic roof, 12-way power-adjustable front seats (six-way power seats are standard), and power-folding mirrors with puddle lights, among other features. The latter bundles 20-inch wheels, a black roof, silver roof rails, and silver exterior accents.EV wars heating up. Undercuts the Model Y by $12,000.
The ID.4 actually looks pretty damn good to me for what it is. It's just a little awkward because its primary use case (urban commuter vehicle) is better served by the ID.3. But this is America, Dawg.

It's interesting considering the F10 M5 and F90 M5 are so subtle in their styling. They must be taking buyer demographics into consideration, probably a much older crowd buying M5's.
By reilo Go To Postlol sorry jong
In the meeting we had with our reps they already were prepared for the backlash, already giving us keywords to use and shit to turn it into a positive lol. Also since I'm just a lowly employee in the totem pole I couldn't really directly ask(especially on a Zoom call) but with the manual trans, I was getting a vibe that they're offering it as a way to counter the backlash. It wasn't a blatant wink wink nudge nudge type thing, but a very subtle one where they'd mention the grille but then immediately bring up the manual as a positive multiple times.
As for the ID4, I'm super excited for it but at the same time I dunno if I can live with an automatic transmission lol. Downshifting to pass fools is too fun lol. But if this thing has an enjoyable kick, hopefully it should as it is an EV after all, then I think I might enjoy it.
Also I believe VW's gonna be the first one to succeed with a mass-market EV... they're ridiculously serious about it, they've already sent reps down here to inspect our building and find the optimal spots to install chargers and retrofit our service bays for EVs. The interesting part is that VW will cover half of the cost to do all of this work... something they stressed to us that other brands(not including Tesla of course) aren't doing or don't plan to at all.
By reilo Go To PostI doubt there'll be many manual optioned cars available
Yep, that's kinda why it stuck out to me with their aggressive yet subtle push lol. I do know lots of our customers have been wanting one for a while but they wanted a sedan not a coupe so they've been waiting... but beyond a certain sect of BMW purists, I dunno what their end game is here.
Hopefully it works out for them tho coz I'd love to get a 6MT 4 door RWD sedan. π
Any of y'all ever got yelled at for driving a car that people think you can't afford?
I was driving a 2020 F-Type 'vert earlier(not even a 2021) and some guy crossing the street called me a fuccboi while I was waiting at the light. π€£π€£π€£
The F-Type in question:
I didn't even have the top down either, just the windows coz the window sticker is taped on the window and it's hard to see out lmao.
I've been doing this for a little over a year, driven even more outrageous looking cars, but this is the first time I've ever got heckled by some rando in the streets. At first I was slightly offended but at the same time, I'm sitting in an F-Type after all so I couldn't really be offended lol.

The only somewhat similar thing that happened to me was when I was going to the Pels game @ Dallas and was trying to figure out how to get into the parking garage while in an area I had never been before. I was driving a little slow and one of the people guiding traffic heckled me with "C'mon, man. You're driving a Porsche!" π

So I was supposed to have the R8 by now...
I inspected the car on Thursday and it was perfectly clean. It's had so much maintenance completed already that I'm fairly confident in the car. The only concern left would be 2 of the 4 magnetic ride suspension components are still original, while the other 2 were replaced recently. We'll see how that goes. I am contemplating a warranty though.
I was supposed to have had it yesterday. My Jag dealership is brokering the deal, but the process takes a lot longer than I anticipated. And the owner of the car is very antsy but also very nervous...and his Karen'd girlfriend wasn't helping the situation, because after 45 minutes she was getting annoyed and wondering what's taking so long for him to receive the check or wire for our agreed on price. Then he tells me he'll make sure she's calm because she gets "nasty" when she gets angry...uhhh ooookay.
I'm definitely dealing with an imbecile who is crazy pussy whipped by his GF. He wanted the check on the spot, but the dealership said they needed my funds to clear first before providing him his. So he was annoyed. He was going to leave the car at the dealership and come back to pick up the money, but once again his GF stepped in and said "you don't know these people or him, do not leave until you get your money or take the car back". So he tells me all of this, and I'm like "uhh...okay, I guess". As if a big ass corporate-owned dealership is going to steal your car or something. So they tell the finance dept that we will finish the deal when my money is authorized to the dealership and then just leave and take the car back.
I'm not even sweating it either, I just hated how rude and douchey they came off to a group of people that always take care of me when I'm buying my cars. I felt more embarrassed this is the guy I'm buying the car from. Weird part of it all too is that he friend requested me days ago on FB...and I'm itching to block or delete the guy from my profile once the transaction is done with.
