Let me be the first to say that I'm seeing it on Thursday night, solely to watch Josh Brolin wreck shit as Thanos. Literally I want to watch the world burn.
I heard Thanos is fucking baller and that’s all I really want.
Jim Starlin getting to see his baby boy up on the screen. I need to know his reaction.

I expect reactions to be mixed. There are just so many characters in this, the juggling act will be nigh on impossible.

Civil War is terrible, so the comparison is off-putting, especially after Ragnarok and Black Panther...
Still, I just want to see Thanos boss up on people.

honestly don't care about reviews. i always expected this to be a mess and that's part of the appeal. just go crazy for almost 3 hours and i'm happy with this one.

It really is appalling in comparison. I'm not big into comics, but aren't the DC heroes more popular than Marvel? Or used to be at least.
I mean they have Batman and Superman ffs

In america maybe, world wide it's basically zero for both. Nobody ever heard of Wonder Woman or Captain American before they got movies.

yea, huh? I knew about Wonder Woman and Captain America back when I lived in Europe, and that was over 20 years ago now.

Do you mean the films from the 70s?

I watched german, austrian, italian, swiss, french and some belgian tv growing up and i had no idea who these guys were. Marvel and DC comics weren't available. Nobody else here did.
Donald Duck and belgian/french comic were the stuff people bought.

I seriously doubt the comics were huge sellers in europe. I need to see some data for that. I honestly to this day haven't seen a single comic book in a regular store.

I live on a small island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and all my life I remember being able to buy comics.

I bet Stan Lee stole this just like he stole everything else he’s known for. Motherfucker made his name riding the dick of more talented creators and writers.

Well this article suggest that Marvel super hero comic sales in the UK have been shit since the 80s and i would guess the UK market was still their best market in europe. I stand by that they niche in europe and probably asia as well.

For the remainder of the 1980s the company published only a small handful of titles that appealed to superhero fans, but had considerable success on the UK newsstands with licensed titles such as The Real Ghostbusters, ThunderCats, Transformers and many others.
By DY_nasty Go To Postcomic sales =/= influence or visibility lmao
Where else should people know WW from? It's not like the 70s show was a huge hit in the 90s.
Man, maybe Germany was more on the ball with that shit (especially for their affinity towards American media), but I definitely hung around comic book stores as a kid out there with a wide range of shit.
here's a hollywood report article that calls both WW and Cap "lesser known internationally"
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/why-wonder-woman-is-catching-more-slowly-overseas-1016761
if anybody has any data proving otherwise i'd gladly read it but i don't want to derail the topic anymore.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/why-wonder-woman-is-catching-more-slowly-overseas-1016761
Case in point: rival Disney and Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), likewise featuring a superhero who has strong American roots but isn't a well-known comic book hero overseas, grossed $176.7 million domestically (48 percent) and $193.9 million internationally (52 percent).
There are likely a number of reasons for this but often lesser-known characters in the international territories require at least one installment to get their sea legs so to speak (much like the first Captain America — and this could bode well for the next Wonder Woman."

Hold on.
$400mil worldwide for a new IP with a female lead is fucking fantastic. Iron Man 2 (follow-up to a very well received IM1) did $311mil foreign. Most recent Transformers movie only did $475mil foreign and that shit is Chinese cinema gold.
So to call Wonder Woman "slow to catch on overseas" is really bizarre of a statement to make.

400 million is a lot but almost no big movie has 50/50 (domestic/ww) splits anymore these days. look up all the top grossing movies and the international gross is usually more in the 40/60 range with 30/70 for the big movies unless they are us centric like Black Panther or even SW.
By reilo Go To PostLast Jedi was a 47/53 split.i mentioned SW above.
France, Italy, and Germany are the biggest comic markets in Europe. DC has the market share in most of the countries when talking specifically about American comics.
In Asian it’s Japanese manga but American comic characters are insanely popular in South Korea and Japan because of American influences.

There's too many examples to name lol
i never said it's not happening it just becomes rarer and rarer.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/
black panther is the only movie that has a higher domestic gross than ww in the top 50 and only the two newer SW movies and Batman are close to being 50/50.
edit: actually Dark Knight did better domestic two but those are the only movies in the top 50, next one up is actually WW at 68.
By reilo Go To PostOkay so doesn't that nullify your argument?
i actually don't know what my argument was, what are we arguing about? ah the article said that WW was slow to catch on WW and i don't think it's wrong. it could've done better than 400 million WW as almost every big block buster does better WW than domestic. is this because it overperformed in the us or underperformed WW, i don't know.
I think the focus on "could've done better" takes away from the fact that it did fantastic foreign for a movie with a female lead with an unknown female director of a new IP inside a cinematic universe that isn't doing too hot at all. It's almost insulting that it's arguing that.

well the article just says it was slower to catch on even says that the fact that it had a female lead was probably a factor that it didn't do (even) better. i don't think it's insulting to say that.
One country where Wonder Woman has lagged well behind other superhero fare is Russia. "Superhero movies with a woman as the main character are rather untypical, which has had some impact on the box office performance of Wonder Woman," notes Russia's Exhibitor's Bulletin.
i disagree with the fact that characters need to be known in order to gross big, GotG proved that years ago. i only posted the article because they said Cap and WW weren't well known internationally not because of main content.
Literally everybody in the UK at some point will have seen or read a comic growing up that was born from the late 60s to late 90s and fox kids had a huge party to play.
Like the films really don't do well because they're great it's because there competent and it feels nostalgic, and it's alot of parents want to share with their kids. For it to be nostalgic their have to memories for the to be memories people had to have read the things

An hour away from seeing it.
This might be my most hyped film since Revenge of the Sith.
Not all the films were of high quality(I am looking at you cap), but you have to respect the ambition that they have had with all the films and planning for the last twn years setting up this film.

I’d say after Spidey and the X-men the most known Marvel characters before the MCU were Hulk, Thor, and Cap.
i would say cap was known but most people dismissed him as another piece of American patriotism gone wild
