It's never going to be enough for you PC elitists, but got my shadow cloud (low tier) pc activated today. I must say, I'm quite impressed so far, and probably will use the 14 day trial and see if I can get on the long ass queue for one of the higher tiers as that seems like the biggest issue with them atm - their scaling and support. Paying more than say geforce now and stadia but gives me a quite powerful pc with options to boot. Smoother than those services so far also but probably because you can ramp up max bandwidth used. Missing hdr10 and a few other options but at least I can install all games without having them being pulled from the service.
We'll probably all have to go your route, batong. Being able to rely on the combined power of multiple cloud PCs is the only way of standing a chance against PS5's futuristic SSD, the one true source of terraflops and unlimited rasterization power. Even John Carmack agrees.
How close to the closest datacenter are you? What are your pings like?

Yeah, I just play too many games that require very low input latency that I just can't deal with cloud gaming as it is currently structured.

I only play single player games though but I don't think it would work with competitive shooters tbh. Closest ones for me is Paris (French company after all) and the actual pc in the cloud has like 1ms and 1gbit down and 100mb up, too bad I have to add like 20ms on top of that though.

Ah, that's less than ideal. They've been around for a while now, right? Odd that they don't have servers in GB and other major countries yet.
Too bad Leap Computing's cloud PC service never materialized, they were supposed to have servers all over the place from the get-go.

Yeah, I think they've been around since 2015/16 at least. They just got another set of investor cash in so maybe they can fix that (servers) though.

To think I used to believe CPU choice didn't matter much at 4K.
Yeah, you hear that alot. But going from my old 4930k to my current 9900k gave a noticeable difference in performance at 4k.
I saw the latest BadSeed video and got the kick I needed to model a wrist rest for my Ducky 2 SF.
Loosely based on the Glorious design with a slanted lower half. I'm going to skin it in purple carbon vinyl to match my current lighting + peripherals theme, so I rounded the fuck out of all corners and extruded a portion of the bottom plate for easier wrapping & tucking. It's 320mm wide, so I had to split it to print it. Fortunately this time I remembered to include an interlocking joint. Should be a quick and relatively painless project.
Let me know if you any suggestions for additional features. At first I wanted to make the wrist rest part of a larger plate or sorts onto which the keyboard would get inserted to form a singular piece, but it's honestly not worth the effort. Not like I shift the keyboard around a lot.
EDIT: I'm going to add some grooves for rubber feet to the bottom plate, I just need to buy some first, so I know how deep I should dig.
EDIT 2: Now that I think of it, the whole thing is going to be ultra light, so I should probably carve out a space for a metal weight.

Just make sure that the height of the wrist rest is such that your wrist just barely avoids touching it when you are actively typing with your wrists in proper position (parallel to the table, i.e. no bend in the wrists).
And, yeah, making sure it doesn't slide from the slightest movement is also a good idea that you are already working on.

What timings are your 3600mhz RAM?
Bless you, Smokey.
Been looking at an upgrade to a 16Gbx2 kit, but I can’t make sense of the pricing for some kits. I can get Team Group’s B die kits, CL14-14-14 3200mhz or C16-16-16 3600mhz for £200 and £230 respectively.
G.Skill’s Trident Z Royals are the ones I’d like to get, but in that same price range their kits are CL18-22-22 or CL19-20-20 3600mhz for about £190.
For CL14 3200mhz they’re £270, CL16-18-18 3200mhz they’re £220.
Basically G.Skill kits are all trash apart from the CL14 3200mhz kit but I can get a similar kit for £70 less or a better(?) kit for £50 less.
RAM is on some bullshit.

I really bought RAM at the wrong time. My 32GB (4x8) of Trident Z Royals was about $500. Basically $250 for each 16GB kit. This was like Feb of last year.
By the way, the W key on my Ducky 2 One SF is slowly but surely dying and at least 3-4 additional keys have started developing key chatter. Still in its infancy, so it's not bothersome yet, but I know where this is going. Third keyboard with reds, third keyboard with the same fucking issue.
Gonna RMA it, get a replacement, ride it out for as long as it lasts and then I'm done with cherry keys. Fuck this mierda.

Meanwhile Vapes here bought a hotswappable keyboard, so I can chuck the switches and keep the board without hassle.
Though you're a pretty handy lad, Zabo. I'm surprised you're not considering de-soldering the red switches and replacing them with something else. It's not a hard process if you've got the tools to hand.
This is what I should do, but I've got a friend upgrading his motherboard and CPU and I offered him my current kit of DDR4. I'm really tempted to bite the bullet and buy the shit timing G.Skill kit just because I've wanted them for so long now. Every fibre of my being is saying get one of cheaper and better Team Group kits.

Pls, it's the very first thing I considered. But since the keyboard is still under warranty, I might as well see what they're going to do about it. I suspect they won't be as courteous as Logitech, who immediately sent me a new keyboard and arranged for the faulty one to be retrieved, but let's see.
Plus I'm kind of saving that job for my first fully custom keyboard. But yeah, if they say it's gonna take a month, it becomes a realistic option.

I sacrificed performance for aesthetics. I went with a CL16 3200mhz kit of Trident Z Royals over the Team Group CL14 kit for the same price.

Posted about this already, but damn. Never thought Corsair would fuck up on their own blocks given the quality of the rest of their branded watercooling gear, though in fairness I believe apart from the blocks, everything else they do is outsourced and rebranded.
Anyone know much about how internet service speeds work? I'm on a 1GB plan and getting like 300 through ethernet. There's actually a plan for 300--so I'm wondering if I could expect a large decrease in speeds if I lowered my plan to that even though it was around my max speed on my current 1gb plan.

Might be your modem.

You should be getting close to what you pay for. 300 is way too off base on a 1000 plan, especially for ethernet. That kind of drop is what you'd expect when using wifi. Probably need to have them check your line or get away from their provided equipment.
Agreed with Sy and Smokey on this. They either didn't enable something correctly on their end or there is a hardware issue (that is likely also their fault).
So I’m looking at getting in to pc gaming. I recently ordered an Alienware laptop that I intend to cancel as I feel I may have jumped the gun before thoroughly examining all my options. My budget is fluid as I try and move some of my console stuff to raise money. I want something that’ll be future proofed for the upcoming generation. Leaning towards a laptop simply because I can’t be arsed to learn to build my own rig, as well as the portability factor being desirable. The Alienware I mentioned has pretty beefy specs (which I’ll post below), but I’d like to hear what people who’re more knowledgeable on the matter have to say before splashing that much cash.

I won't stop you from getting a laptop but I will say that they get super hot under load and the portability means less when they weigh like 12 pounds and the battery is nearly dead after less than an hour of actual gaming a year into its life.
For real, what do you feel you actually need the portability for? I generally only recommend gaming laptops to people who are on the road a lot or have too little space in their home for a traditional desktop setup. You nearly always pay a hefty premium for gaming laptops for not much return. Especially if you ever want to upgrade your rig.

The big downside of something that small for this particular case is the OP being a PC newbie. Those can already be difficult for seasoned builders.
By Kibner Go To PostThe big downside of something that small for this particular case is the OP being a PC newbie. There's quite a few nice in-between options, if he wants to go the small-ish form factor route, but we need more details, Elliott. Do you actually foresee moving the PC around a whole lot, like between locations, or is this more of a 'would be nice, but I'll probably never' kind of thing.
Also, is (desk) space a limiting factor at all?
You could pull a Cavalo and go with a prebuilt system, but I think most people here will recommend you take the time to put it together yourself, with as much help as you need from the fine people in this thread. It's not quite as trivial a task as experienced builders would have you believe, but if FF#1 and Bla managed without destroying any components, so can you.
As for future-proofing ... I think we need to know how high you're willing to go budget-wise. How much is that Alienware?

Space is definitely a factor given my current living situation, and I figured also a laptop would be more beginner friendly. If I were to get a desktop, however, it’d have to be prebuilt, as I can’t see myself building one.
The Alienware would’ve been around 5k without the promo on Dell’s website (that Canadian tax). I’d like to keep it at least in the 3 thousand range.

I don’t see myself lugging it around much, Zabo. As for desk space, I’d have to buy a new unit but if it saves me some money on the rig I’d consider it a net positive.

They do offer it as a fully prebuilt via the BLD service. Currently out of stock though, plus I think it's limited to certain countries.
