Amazing movie. Holy shit what a movie
Also two of the hottest leads in any movie ever. Makes it an even easier watch
Take back what's yours and be free is a helluva message for an American film. It's like a prison escape movie but the prison is EVERYWHERE, man. a job interview in this movie is like meeting with the warden for possible parole
goddamn I loved this movie

By Not Go To PostTheo Rossi looking fantastic for 47, shit. I thought he was 35 in this movie
I did a fist pump when I saw him. Havent seen him in any movies in awhile.
By Lunatic Go To PostDamn really enjoyed Day Shift. Just something bout Jamie Foxx swag.
Edit: oops wrong thread….
Really entertaining, it should get a sequel but that being Netflix who knows.
I thought everything about it, bar a couple of the action scenes, sucked really quite badly. Made The Grey Man seem like high brow kino.
By n8 dogg Go To PostI thought it made a good point about how we even try and commodify trauma. I felt it adjacent to the plethora of films, docs, etc. about 9/11 or whatever else, and how his coping mechanism is to play up to the infamy in order to profit off people’s desire for morbid spectacle, all culminating in him literally selling tickets to people that end up being consumed. Could have done with a bit more of him tbh.The themes were very subtle and ultimately a bit overwhelmed by the nature of the rest of the film. As you said, it needed more, or it didn't really need to be there. They ended up in the middle and I mostly felt it was there because the scenes with the monkey were unsettling and evocative.
I don't really think Yeun's character needed the elaboration for his actions. Wealthy guy tries to profit from force of nature and gets his comeuppance has been a trope of these type of films since the original King Kong. I feel like the film would have benefitted from a bit more time on Antlers, who himself was just the "obsessive hunter" trope that has been around since Jaws.
Twin was let rich guy gets his comeuppance and more what n8 said. It’s fit into the theme of the whole movie. I don’t think it needed any less or more, his character did it’s job.
Without his character you don’t really get the contrast between him and OJ, with more time you’re just taking away from everyone else who is more important

I don’t think it needed any less or more, his character did it’s job.I didn't mean to remove him from the film, he still had an important plot role. But there was a good chunk of screentime on his backstory with Gordy that seemed to like it would build up to something, but in the end it was just this minor thematic link

Watched the latest Fantastic Beasts film. Lost interest about 30 seconds in as I couldn't remember what happened in the last film.
Seemed to be mainly about getting a baby goat to pick who should be the leader of the wizards.
It was more focused on Albus Dumbledore and Jude Law again made literally no attempt to be anything like the character in the original Harry Potter films.
Absolute shit. 1/10

I watched it uncensored on Mubi Canada with… everything being shown. Genuinely surprised it was like that but I guess that’s the point they were going for.

Sucks for the winners last year
A year after eight Academy Award statuettes were controversially presented prior to the live Oscars telecast in an effort to shorten the length of the show, which ultimately failed, it looks increasingly likely that all 23 categories will again be treated equally moving forward.
Bill Kramer, the Academy’s new CEO, signaled as much in an interview with the organization’s digital magazine a.Frame that posted Tuesday, saying he would like to see “all artistic and scientific disciplines honored on the show” and that “we need to produce an Oscars show that celebrates the collaborative work of the industry.”

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Pugh confirmed the split with the Scrubs actor. “We’ve been trying to do this separation without the world knowing, because it’s been a relationship that everybody has an opinion on,” Pugh told Harper’s Bazaar. “We just felt something like this would really do us the benefit of not having millions of people telling us how happy they are that we’re not together. So we’ve done that. I automatically get a lumpy throat when I talk about it.”Braff is the anti-Theo Rossi
Pugh and Braff reportedly started dating in 2019, but were fiercely private about their relationship, and were rarely seen out in public together. The couple had faced scrutiny on social media due to the 21-year age gap between them — Pugh is 26 and Braff, 47.

Watched Blue Story last night. Its a film based on a true gang war in South London directed and narrated by grime rapper Rapman. When it was released there were fights and riots at cinemas despite the film's message being anti-gang violence.
Its enjoyable enough with some good acting from some of the young cast members.
Thought it was funny how the Deptford "Ghetto Boys" wore the bright blue of Lewisham borough
It's on Netflix but only for a few more days

Hulu reviving old horror franchises that had terrible sequels (well, Predator only had 1 really terrible sequel and 2 atrocious crossovers).
