By matmanx1 Go To PostYep, those are nice gains for an intake, pipes and ECU, especially if it's conservative. I bet it sounds good too, nice and loud!
Fortunately, it has not made the car loud at all. Zero drone. I mean that - zero. It has made the exhaust more aggressive, higher pitched, perhaps raspier. Loudness has only gone up past the 4K mark. Otherwise, there's barely a difference in loudness during normal driving and especially on the highway during consistent speeds. Also, this tune pops and bangs like the F-Type. I'll post a video of it :)
By SUPER YARAK Go To PostHow much money have you spent since you rescued it lol
Just fixing the car mechanically and cosmetically I believe I posted was $2500? Modding has been another $1300. I MIGHT get a Y-pipe, which are pretty cheap to test out, but this is honestly the extent of tuning I'm going to do with it. Next are tires/wheels, which will probably cost another $2000-2200 total.
Also, keep in mind that a lot of the mods can be re-sold with very little loss.

Actually a pretty reasonable amount considering the car. Good stuff.

It would've been so much cheaper had the paint not been shit. I would've just detailed it and that's it. Hell, even today I could've gotten the detail done for free. That's like $2000 right there for total body work.
By Christberg Go To PostNice sounding toy, Alpha. Makes me want to do a project car, too
Thanks. The Z is definitely the imperfect car and part of the fun is trying to make it perfect to my preference.
The Car and Driver site just got redesigned and they somehow managed to make that steaming pile of garbage even worse. Which is frustrating as hell because they have the best in depth review database I’ve seen. Good luck finding them now though.
Spotted an i-Pace on the road just now. That thing is gorgeous and really stands out on its own. It clearly doesn't just look like an F-Pace with electric motors.

I agree. It's fucking awful. I have no idea where's what. They have the most in depth car data and instrumented tests. Idk who signed off on this shit.

One of my best buds just bought a 2008 Ford F250. Car has a 6.4L TTV8 diesel. As per usual, a used truck like that commonly has some modifications. This one has a 2 inch lift, wheels and tires, and when he tells me there's some screen diagnostic thingy inside that has car settings, I was like "uhh...I wanna see. Sounds like a piggy back ECU, dude". He had been telling me earlier that the car is way faster than he had anticipated, and I was basically certain his little screen was not just an OBDII diagnostic system, but a full on kit.
So I look at it, it has an H&S piggy back system. Did some research and basically, this thing has settings that can boost power by 80HP, 160HP, and 250HP. LOL. It takes the truck to 600HP and 800TQ. Absolutely absurd for such a behemoth.
And yes, the car is purposeful for him: he's in general construction, house care and maintenance - so he's always got a massive trailer and has to pull out tree stumps sometimes. His daily is a tiny little 2010 Ford Focus.

... 5 MPG?
By Adam Go To Post… 5 MPG?
More torque = better MPG. He gets 18-20MPG without the trailer. 12-13MPG with it, and he lives in a very hilly part of Florida (Clermont, Lake County).
Ever since my XKR's 40lbs of torque have been unlocked by the ECU (yes, unlocked...Jaguar intentionally holds the torque back via ECU for some reason), my MPG have skyrocketed. I use to get 210-220 miles per tank driving it smoothly. Now, I'm getting 250 until the gas light and definitely making use of the 600HP and enjoying the fuck out of the power. I could probably squeeze 270 with more control of my foot. I attribute all of this to the wall of torque being available to me at 2500RPM. The car tears like a herd of banshees between 3000-4000RPM...makes people think it's open throttle. Meanwhile I'm just riding the torque wave.
First road trip in the Cayman complete:
75 mph holds at nearly 3k rpm while averaging a little over 31 mpg. Not too shabby!
Also, I noticed a hell of a difference in handling when I extended the wing at 75 mph. Didn't expect it to make that much of an impact.
My back didn't hurt after getting out of the car after that long trip with only a single stop in order to fill up the gas tank. We'll see how it feels tomorrow, but it's looking pretty good for ergonomic effectiveness.
Only 900 of the Porsche recommended 2,000 miles left to go before I can really open her up!

I've not read the Cayman specific break-in instructions but most makers say that after 1000 miles you can gradually increase the RPM's over a period of time until you reach that full break in mileage. On the TT-RS it was 1000 miles for break-in and after 750 or so I started increasing the RPM's (from 4000 max to 4500 max to 5000 max, etc.) and I think I ended up with an extremely strong break-in. I could have just been lucky but I had no oil use and my Blackstone Labs report after my first oil change was excellent.
Porsche said on Monday that the Taycan, its first fully electric production vehicle, will be able to receive over 60 miles of range from a 4-minute charge. That charging time would be the fastest available today, the automaker said, exceeding Tesla's supercharging stations, which can charge a vehicle's battery to about 80% of its capacity in around 30 minutes.https://www.businessinsider.com/porsche-ev-fast-charging-tech-ready-compete-tesla-analyst-2019-1
The Taycan's proposed maximum charging speed would be possible when using DC fast-chargers that support charging rates of up to 350 kilowatts, which will be available at 120 of the 191 Porsche dealers in the US, as well as charging stations operated by Electrify America.
Even my Cayman with the fixed sport suspension is surprisingly comfy for road trips, and the gas mileage is great. Last time I took it on one I averaged 35 MPG and wasn't sore at all the whole time. Lots of cabin noise but that's really the worst part, and frankly you expect that on a sports car. Probably helps that OR has super smooth roads though.
The electric car day is creeping closer. Started looking at houses again this week, maybe this year which puts the car purchase next year. Have a 350Kw station just up the street too.

By SUPER YARAK Go To PostLooks like i need a Cayman from all these comfort posts. It is very comfortable and I can recommend it if you can afford it. Not many negatives I can think of, tbh. The cabin noise and option hell are real. No android auto support and no perfect places to mount an android phone. Those are the only "drawbacks" that stand out to me. Everything else has been pretty ace, so far.
Basically for me, if you compare it to the V6 Accord I drove before it's somewhat close, but the Cayman is definitely better. What it loses in suspension firmness and road noise it completely makes up for by having a more complicated suspension and stiffer body structure. At cruising speed it might be louder from tire noise but the whole car just vibrates way less. And of course if you holistically compare both vehicles it's in a completely different ballpark like you'd expect.
Don't want to compare it to something like an S class though, that's a totally different game.

Just found an app called "motogo" that uses an algorithm to find twisty roads near your location. Not many downloads and hasn't been update in a year, but it seems like it may be useful. Will have to try it out later this week.

Well shoot in that case... lemme know when you're free this week. I've got the standard 9-6 so I'll pretty much be free after that.
It's been so cold here in North Georgia that I made the decision to park the Macan for a couple of days. I love the 21" wheels but it's running summer tires so I'm being pretty careful with them. I saw 17 degrees yesterday on the way to work in the Lexus GX and 20 degrees this morning. Tomorrow should be warmed up enough that it can come out and play.

Hi, yes. I'm Alpha and I have a sickness.
After contemplating suicide by watching the Knicks throw away their franchise player based on a BELIEF that they think superstars would want to sign max deals with them...I went out and did something. It involved my wallet.
It's 1 of ~900 ever made. And it's very, very blue. And yes, still British.
By Lunatic Go To PostMcLaren?
Nope. I think every modern McLaren has eclipsed 900 cars sold already, by now.
JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG.
Don't worry, Papa Dirk, Luka, and the rest of us Mavs fans will take care of Porzingod. :P
Gonna say the same thing about your Cayman lol. That red was quite stunning in person, and that exhaust note was great even if it's a 4-cylinder turbo. Lemme know when you're around here next time, there should be a lot more car meets popping up soon coz spring is coming.

I was going to say F-Type. I did not expect an XKR-S since you already have an XKR. Still, she's a looker. Congrats!
Seeing all these muscle cars in Dallas made me realize I really don't like that short window look because it just reminds me of how terrible the viewing angles out of the cars are.

Yeah, wildly different experience though. The interior is fucking crazy - it has carbon fiber leather. Track-spec seats. The entire suspension is leagues ahead of the XKR. Steering rack is different. Steering is faster. Body roll is extremely minimal. Suspension is firmer. Subframe is different front and back. Imagine the difference in feeling between a regular 3-series and an M-car. That's the XKR-S.
Oh and the exhaust note is hilarious and wild. And it pops whenever it wants. Seriously in absolute awe that this is my car. And I thought the XKR got attention? That was black and understated without any kind of body enhancements.
The R-S is Taylor Rooks walking into the club in a tight af bright blue dress.
