I had an entire rant about this IIRC.
Yeah, Motor Trend was given a TON of shit for giving the Alfa Car of the Year because of how many breakdowns and dealer visits the car had for actual mechanical issues.

I'm not really all that up to speed when it comes to Tesla or Elon Musk's affairs, but looking on from the outside it seems like the guy juggles a million different projects simultaneously - maybe he should shift his focus to the "here and now".
I know enough to understand this isn't the first time they've faced (major) production difficulties.
I know enough to understand this isn't the first time they've faced (major) production difficulties.
It’s not necessarily his focus that’s the problem.
It’s that he thinks making cars is similar to how a 5 year old can build a house using a bunch of legos.
It just isn’t that easy.
Tesla just doesn’t have the manufacturing capabilities to build that many cars and it seems like Tesla isn’t investing in the right equipment and the skilled workers leading to the shitty panel gaps, recalls and all other shit that basically leads to not being able to keep up with their projected numbers.

Tesla is clearly trying to scale so quickly to avoid the other manufacturers catching up and beating them to mass scale EV production. They absolutely cannot wait until 2019 or 2020 to be at max production capabilities.
Also, Musk's entire compensation package is tied to turning Tesla's valuation beyond $100bil:
Also, Musk's entire compensation package is tied to turning Tesla's valuation beyond $100bil:
The progress on production is key for Musk, as Tesla’s board recently approved a whopper of a pay package for the CEO that could net him more than $50 billion. But that’s contingent on him increasing the automaker’s valuation to $650 billion. Musk has to increase the company’s valuation to $100 billion to earn anything at all, presenting a dynamic where Tesla employees working harder to increase production is tied directly to Musk’s compensation. So the motives are clear.
By BubbaKrumpz Go To PostShin, are you the one that drives a GTR or is that someone else?
Yeah, if you can find a CTR without markup it’s definitely a good buy. I actually like the look of the NSX a lot
Yeah GTR....then Lambo...
By reilo Go To PostIs it? Because a ton of long-term reviews by car magazines had some very serious concerns with it. And Consumer Reports wasn't too kind, either. Not the Giulia specifically. 159, Brera, Giulietta are all pretty solid
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostIt's so tempting though. There's one for sale used at a Ferrari dealer in Orlando. I wanna test drive it hahaha. How close is your nearest dealer? And are they a Maserati/Alfa dealer (preferred) or just a Dodge/Fiat/Alfa dealer (not so good) I've actually spent a fair amount of time on the giulia forums and some folks have had several issues and other have had none. Catastrophic failures seem to be very, very few but a lot of these cars don't have a ton of miles on them yet so we really don't know how they will hold up.
If I was in the market for a new sports car, I'd consider one…3+ years of warranty is okay on a used car.
But the next car will likely be a used XJ with a solid CarMax warranty (assuming Doug DeMuro's stupid ass cornball face hasn't ruined the cost of their warranties for everyone).
If I had a close dealer the Giulia Quad would absolutely be near the top of my list. Unfortunately my closest dealer is nearly a 2 hour trip so that means it is sort of a wild card.

Any one hear any horror story concerning the new NSX maintenance?

Tesla will reportedly fall short of its 2,500-per-week target for production of the crucial Model 3 sedan when it reports its numbers this week, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed on Twitter a report ithat he has personally taken direct control of the production effort.
The website The Information (subscription required) reported that Musk had "pushed aside" Doug Field, Tesla's VP of engineering, but Musk objected to reporter Amir Efrati, "Can't believe you're even writing about this. My job as CEO is to focus on what's most critical, which is currently Model 3 production. Doug, who I regard as one of the world's most talented engineering execs, is focused on vehicle engineering."
And though Musk might not force Tesla into bankruptcy with one dumb, poorly timed tweet, he didn't do it any favors during a particularly rough patch when he sent an April Fool's tweet saying that Tesla Motors was going bankrupt. Not everyone was laughing, however, when Tesla stock slumped Monday during Wall Street trading by approximately 6 percent.https://www.autoblog.com/2018/04/02/tesla-model-3-production-reportedly-misses-target/
Some observers, including The Los Angeles Times, saw cause and effect there, but the reality is Tesla's stock had been dropping since before the tweet (it fell 12 percent last week and is down 19 percent for the year). Investors are plenty nervous that production of the Model 3 sedan, the highly-anticipated volume model starting at $35,000, was still moving at a glacial pace.
By jongkookie Go To PostDid y'all know Motor Trend is pulling the plug on YouTube?
Apparently you're forced to get MT On Demand now if you want to watch their new shows.
You're in west Texas right? Whereabouts exactly? I'm probably gonna drive out to Lubbock in May for a friends graduation at Texas Tech so if there are any good roads you recommend, please do share!
I'm in Lubbock. LOL driving roads... sadly, there is nothing out here worth a darn. Palo Duro Canyon in Amarillo is 90 miles north and is by far the best (as I mentioned in my post) but it's a state park so very strict speed limits. Also very popular. I'm getting hitched on 5/11 at the courthouse and then my wife will be graduating with a masters in clinical laboratory management from the Texas Tech HSC the next day.
By Christberg Go To PostFor me, any new Alfa is on hold until we have a couple years of reliability data, at least. You're right though, tons of them floating around. It's kind of shocking actually. Never actually looked before this.
Basically any of the entry level CUVs are just too damn slow these days IMO. That, and FWD in something you're gonna tow with is kinda nope for me.
There's a reason I got a CPO GLK350 instead of anything new, oldschool infotainment be damned.
We had our hearts set on a GLK350 with AMG appearance package but it's just too small. I think we are going to go straight to a 3 row for the extra storage. Already have 50lbs worth of dogs and we load up her grandparent's last generation Escape heavily going to the mountains for a weekend. It has more cargo room than a GLK. With a kid in the next couple of years and 2 dogs/crates we won't have the space in a compact but a 3 row with 3rd row folded should be plenty of space. I'm thinking 2015 MDX and add some fog lights. I'm such a sucker for fog lights.
By Smokey Go To PostAnybody have a Raptor here? Been seeing some lately blacked out and they look dope.A local friend has one that I've driven on and off road, the new one with the Ecoboost 6. Was fun off road, but the suspension setup makes it a pretty weak ass truck for truck things. It's stupid wide too, wider than my 2016 2500 Cummins, which is a strange feeling when it's so much lighter than a proper HD truck.
Getting one just for asphalt duty seems kinda dumb, especially with the crappy payload.
By shinshoryuken Go To PostIf you get in with out markup then it's a pretty good deal. Can't deny the performance. It's still pretty ugly though..There seems to be a trend where a lot of the negative reviews on the NSX were on preproduction pressers with kinda shitty tires. I've heard a number of different people sing praises over the last 6 months or so. Harris and Farah both love it.
Why can't Honda make better looking cars….if the NSX looked slightly better, I wouldn't even think about it. Now it's between an NSX or a limited production car.
The way they say to look at it is that it's a less expensive version of the 918/P1/LaFerrari that you can use every day.
If you're looking for a spiritual successor to the NSX, you might consider the Evora 410. If I were in the market for an exotic mid engine car in the sub-150 range, that's what I'd pick up.

Yeah, it’s a little guy. Mine’s exactly that, and it’s perfect for us, because no dogs and 1 kid. MDX is pretty great, would suggest a newer one with cylinder deactivation if you can get it. I think 15 is the newest year you can get that.
Saw a Lotus 410 not long ago, super attractive car. Wouldn’t trade my Cayman for it but yeah, loved it regardless

Do you have the lighting package too? Those are pretty rare and seem to be mostly on the AMG optioned ones. That was a must for us when we were considering the GLK.
Yep, 2015 MDX with SH-AWD and Tech package is the target for the cylinder deactivation and it doesn't have the 9 spd which a lot of people seem to complain about. I admit the 2017+ looks a lot better with the Acura beak fully gone though.
She wants to look at 2017+ Explorer Limited as well but I think the quality and reliability of the MDX would be far superior.
You might consider the Pilot as well. It's basically an MDX with slightly lower trim. Atlas as well. If infotainment is important to you, both have Carplay/Android Auto, not sure if that was added to the MDX or not for the year you're looking at.

She doesn't like how the Pilot looks and I'm not too hot on it either. We will be looking at the Atlas. If prices drop quickly, i'd love to have one with the VW version of Audi's virtual cockpit. No carplay/android auto on 2015 MDX for sure, not sure about newer. No Highlander either since she's been driving a Camry for 7 years. I'd like to test drive a Durango as well.
Durango R/Ts are pretty neat. Interior fit and finish isn't going to feel as nice as the Atlas or MDX/Pilot, but definitely more enjoyable to drive. They seem pretty easy to nab with low miles in the high 20s/low 30s.

BMW is damn if you do, damn if you don't
What I can definitively declare, however, is that the 2019 I-Pace boasts far superior interior quality than every Tesla I've driven. It's also, just as important, a considerable leap forward in terms of materials quality and design from the rather dull and disappointing current Jaguar litter of F-Pace, XF and XE.
And really, if this thing had a spikey T logo on its trunk rather than a leaping cat, I'd wager the Internet would melt, women would faint in the streets and waiting lists would stretch to Mars.👀

The transmission. ZF makes a great transmission, but they have very specific max torque ratings. 600lbs ft tq is already a major number for the 8-speed. People will push these and the torque converters will fail extremely early. ESPECIALLY because BMW states the fluid in the transmission is lifetime, meanwhile ZF states it is not (meant to be changed every 50K kilometers with more aggressive use, I have the PDF too)

Not sure if anyone here has bought a Toyota, but... https://tmccsettlement.com
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (“CFPB”) and the U.S. Department of Justice ("DOJ") have entered into a settlement (or “Consent Order”) with Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (“TMCC”) over allegations that TMCC’s dealer compensation policies resulted in African-American, Asian, and Pacific Islander buyers paying higher interest rates than non-Hispanic White buyers, without regard to creditworthiness. Toyota Motor Credit Corporation, while neither admitting nor denying the claims, voluntarily agreed to pay up to $21.9 million to repay eligible buyers. The company will also change its pricing and compensation system to substantially reduce dealer discretion and accompanying financial incentives to mark up interest rates.
To be eligible for a settlement payment:
- A buyer must have gotten an auto loan to buy a vehicle financed by Toyota Motor Credit Corporation between January 1, 2011, and August 1, 2016.
- At least one buyer on the contract must be African-American, Black, Asian, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander.
- The buyer(s) must also have been identified by the Government as having been overcharged by Toyota Motor Credit Corporation.

By Smokey Go To PostWhat's the general consensus on Audi's RS line in 2018.The best it has been in a long time, maybe ever? I'm disappointed that we don't get the RS4 Sportback over here in North America but other than that I would happily own and drive pretty much anything they offer.
RS3 - epic-fast small sports sedan. A bit of a sleeper.
TTRS - even faster than the RS3 and the best sports car interior on the market all the way up to about $150k
RS5 - Legit C63S and M4 competitor.
RS7 - R8 performance with 4 doors and a hatch
R8 - While maybe not as exciting as the first gen it is still great and they now have a rear wheel drive version.
So yeah, pretty darn good in my opinion. Why do you ask?

Don't see them that much in the wild where I'm at. And I was watching a RS5 video earlier. They don't get mentioned here that much either.
Don’t think any of us own one. Good cars though, handsome comfy and understated with plenty of power. More a GT type for the most part though, hence why it’s never been on my radar exactly.
By reilo Go To PostFor the GT style that Smokey likes, the RS5/7 grand coupes would be perfect.
I test drove the previous gen RS5 and liked it. Based on what I was watching earlier, the new one looks good too, save for the exhaust. Never really thought about the S7/RS7 tbh. The 6 series GC has a special place in that category for me, so I've never really bothered to look at similar class vehicles.
The 5 Cylinder in the RS3 and TTRS is intoxicating. RS5 sportback seems like it hits a good niche of practicality and performance.
As for the RS5, 70-80k new is damn fine 991.1, and soon 991.2 money.
