This is how uncultured I am. I thought this post was referencing something a Alabama pastor might have done and I had to google it.
Though, if you actually do want some giggles, search "Alabama pastor" instead of "al pastor" and just scroll through.

By Smoke Dogg Go To PostIf, however, the case is that those funds are not meant to be discriminatory, that those funds exist to help any and all in need, regardless of status of legal domicile, then someone needs to just come out and say that bitching about illegal immigrants is all a moot point and that Republicans are just bitchy pieces of shit and will always find a way to be bitchy pieces of shit all because they can't have their confederate flag anymore.Nah, pointing it out doesnt work. They'll find a way to blame someone else.
Near my FIL's farm there's plenty of illegal/legal immigrants and locals and you know what they complain about?
The Malaysian Chinese taking all the jobs and money.

By Random Ass Username Go To PostLet's cut to the chase who or what would replace it?I honestly don't know, revert some of the duties back to INS or replace it without something that is directly responsible with immigration/asylum seekers and meddle it with an anti-terrorism department.
By FermentedFungi Go To PostI honestly don't know, revert some of the duties back to INS or replace it without something that is directly responsible with immigration/asylum seekers and meddle it with an anti-terrorism department. And here's the problem in a nutshell. Rather that restructure, demand more accountability and generally keep an agency you want to create less government and put this back under even more federal control, who's got all the branches currently? Who does this kind of push really help in the long run? You honestly don't know or have a clue what should be done in its absence but you're so sure ICE needs to fuck off?

Having GW as president didn't stop gay activists to push for equality marriage laws. The point is to force the conversation into the mainstream and not let corporate dems and the right stop from any progress occurring. The criticisms of ICE go back to Obama and GW not just under Trump.

Weren't we just discussing how reflexive attitudes towards federal control has been a bad thing?

there's *never* going to be a good administration for it. its a bipartisan issue that was built with both 'good' leaders and 'bad'. however, there's something to say about populist movements deliberately asking for executive action to resolve things that are the responsibility of many other organizations.
again, there's already been action to empower the navy to take on more of this responsibility. why is that good? the president doesn't even need to go through congress to wage war - why on earth would they ever be pressed to answer for illegal immigrants. i go right back to maritime detentions. you'll never even hear of those people and they'll never even know what a trial is. now allow the commander in chief complete powers over that, with the options of privatization of course.
how bad does that get?
'abolish ice' is right up there with occupy wallstreet. kinda worse tbh

How were previous arguments anywhere close to the reflexive nature of "Abolish ICE"?
There's not even an end goal on the level of all guns magically disappearing

You mentioned maritime law, I didn't. INS was in place before ICE, it's not a long standing institution, itms not the FBI. It has an abhorrent track record of human rights violations. I dont to list out a whole list of policy issues to recognize that something is fucked. Create a different agency under a different department which more concise and clear goals, don't lump immigration in with terrorism like this administration likes to do so. It's not reflexive to say ICE should be abolished because I belive it shouldn't have been created to begin with.

i bring up maritime detention as its something that the military skates with (that all militaries skate with tbh) because its a way that direct military action can supersede all the friendly immigration policies. so again, this current path reinforces that. its a globally recognized loophole. now, to take it a step further we in america have granted this same section of government the ability to discern 'risks' wholly at their discretion. combine the two.
how is this good? its kinda ironic that you stick to 'creating a different agency' when its what got ICE ramped up in the first place too unless im missing something

GOP would be thrilled to jump in with a fully privatized agency with absolutely no transparency to states or citizenry via FOIA. It's what I've been saying. But what the fuck ever.

If youāre going to ingnore me, do so. This is some pathetic ass passive agressive bullshit. Iāve stayed out of the immigration coversation with you and everyone else intentionally. I make one comment to RAU about one aspect of the topic because we had previously discussed something similar. Fucking lame
By DY_nasty Go To Postehhhhhhh if you're pushing for something that's *already enabled* greater military control, then how can you call that progress?True I was taking a middle raod as for creating an agency, but the way ICE goes about doing things is fucked uo and something you dont ever mention. I honestly believe it should just be abolished. America has a fucked up relationship with immigrants in this country that allows many corporations and business take advantage of workers while allowing everyone else to displace the blame onto the immigrant. I dont have the answers to what would replace it or feel that there really needs aomething to replace it. It's just one step in restructing how this country deals with immigration, but I concede that nothing of value will happen when we have a white supremacist in office.

All good. I don't focus on ICE for two reasons. One, obviously there's bad stuff going on. Two, this stuff is in no way exclusive to ICE. Family separation, maximum penalties, indefinite holdings, so on and so forth. We do it to citizens every day so of course illegal immigrants can get it. At least ICE is an agency. We still green light and endorse bondsmen/bounty hunters. Across the board, there's common failures and poor priorities. To isolate ICE is disingenuous.
Also, Americans take better advantage of people while they're actually here. This isn't about kicking people out. It's about gradually moving the margins towards exploitative practices. The framework of "work for you citizenship" has existed for generations now. We already know the ways of private prisons. But you can't do that without facilities - and people just gave the government more power to do just that.
The focus should never be on ICE to begin with. The push will be inefficient and the pushback will lead to more "blue lives matter" laws. Ask for better regulation and third party oversight. More communication between levels instead of falling into the us/them.
