Second race of the season and we are in Bahrain, to be more precise in Sahkir for the FORMULA 1 2018 GULF AIR BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX. Even though we are racing ion the desert heat, night race under floodlights means temps will have dropped significantly for the race. Track is a mixture of different corner types with long straights, requires downforce and power and will give some overtaking :hoorah: opportunities.
Most important stuff this weekend takes place of track with Liberty media presenting their "2021 and on" plans, which will no doubt lead to a push back by Ferrari and co. Liberty wants cheaper, so max budget (150 mil) and more standard parts, better revenue sharing, simpler rule/decisions (no more 1 team veto's) making. Sounds reasonable to you why than the problems, Dieter Rencken summed up the issues at hand best at Racing Fans. Cannot see Ferrari and other big Manufacturers be happy with the "simpler/cheaper" parts, let alone revenue drop, so expect some fighting words (split) in next few weeks.
Oh and we are also racing, track is made for Mercedes, power + downforce bits and I expect Lewis to want to put last race behind him, Valteri should be biggest challenger, we will have to see if he can bounce back
from his disaster (Q crash) last race.
Also interested if Max and Kimi can bounce back from their Melbourne race weekend. For Max being quicker than DannyRic is one, but he need to get in the habit of picking up the pieces left by others when winning isn't an option. Also curious if Kimi can bounce back from a weekend dominating his team-mate, yet seeing Sebastian winning due to a lucky VSC and you being on the back-foot from the 1st race on....again.
Two other teams for me to keep an eye on for me are first McLaren. They were handed a 5th place (VSC) in Melbourne, but that did not look their pace. Gap with top 3 was bigger than expected and with them bringing the first few of planned updates (side pots/planes), they do need to make a big step forward this weekend.
And the other team is Toro Rosso, or maybe better Honda again, only race two and already having to replace broken parts of the engine. Winter-testing looked promising and they have to be making little steps forward, instead of falling back to the troubles of the last few seasons.
Free practice even more meaningless than usual, due to temperature, so lets wait for FP2 later today. Honda is fighting back....when it engine is working ;)
:P
Ferrari looked on more performance engine mode than Merc in single lap, long run pace today all three looked in a very similar ballpark.

Mercedes making the race a little more interresting voor Lewis/us

FP3 with sector times
Amazing, if you ignore Williams ;) , how close p7 to the Saubers is 0.7 seconds. If Mercedes problems, they did not manage 1st flying lap, aren't temperature related we could have amazing race. Max still needs to get 1st sector right and Ferrari looks so much more planted than they did in Testing/Melbourne
Kimi pole, can it happen ?????

What the hell have Williams done?
By markao Go To PostKimi pole, can it happen ?????Kimi gets pole, Ferrari fucks him and makes Vettel win tomorrow.
Williams is a hard one to judge, if you take in account the gap between
Massa & Stroll last season, but it looks all over the place (every sector)
lets do a Barça 16 race repeat and Max ahead of Kimi :P, but Kimi on pole

Seb’s on pole.
Should be good tomorrow, with both McLaren cars being eliminated and Verstappen behind Hartley.

Scuderia Ferrari 1-2, shame Kimi on 2 :(
Ham behind Bottas p9 tomorrow and looking how close DannyRic was, Max error will feel even worse :(
[edit]interview without Max he raid he had a sudden 150 hp drop and boost stichtte maken his rearwheels spin, so not all that silly.
And Pierre Gasly p6 ---> POWER OF DREAMS and thats P5 tomorrow....poor Fernando :P
Should be great race, overtaking options and people out of their normal order!!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Kimi.

brilliant RBR weekend, second weekend they leave points on the table :( Looking at Lewis/Max again I think that if Fernando would not have been there, nothing would have happened, now Max needed to adjust on turn in and Lewis had no space to go to.
Max interview, no problem with Fernando, just by given bit of gas to squeeze Lewis out, Lewis did not back of and drama. Not quit sure if Max needed to do that, understand why, but next corner he would have been ok anyway :(
Gasly Toro Rosso racepace so far  !!

See it was Kimi driving over a mechanic :, broken leg ?? :(
one more car to go and Gasly is on the podium...lets hope I did not jinxed him ;)

I can't see either Mercedes catching Vettel barring his tyres exploding. Neither Bottas or Vettel look to have the pace.
By Cleff Go To PostHmm.second last lap, gonna be close...1st sector is down massively for Bottas so MAX power attack
Botttas closing in fast.
and go POWER of DREAMS p4 for Gasly
shame Mercedes did not start the push few laps earlier, but other than that one little mistake great drive by Vettel
shame about Max/Lewis hit because race would have been even more fun
and PIERRE GASLY power of dreams p4 for HONDA POWER just brilliant
Was a great race, with the pit incident being the only sour point.
Significant that Williams seem to be weaker than the Sauber.

Those tires were fucked, they seemed like half a lap away from bursting.
Speedy recovery to the Ferrari mechanic. That looked horrible :(
