The new memory will run at 1.35v and deliver double the speed of GDDR5 but will cost around 20% more to produce.yea cool because memory hasn't been costing a fucking arm and a leg the past few years or anything

Were looking at 1180 ti north of $1200.
Lol.
1180Ti, 5% less performance than a Titan V at half the price!

It's still as inconsistent as its ever been. But i want 4k60 maxed when I get back in.

I'm probably keeping my 1060 as my forever backup card

Smokey give me an offer i cant refuse.
All you did was play TF2 in steam what you need a 1060 for. Smokey go back to your old ways and get a titan as a backup
By Kabro Go To PostI use it mainly for rendering.

Thats a legitimate reason, right?
boi
I did it. I just ordered a Intel NUC7i7DNKE with 32 GB of 2400MHz DDR4 RAM with low latency and a 500 GB M.2 NVMe SSD.
Gonna finally have a home server that is going to be used as a build server (primarily to help development of this website to start with), dedicated streaming box to ease load off my gaming PC, and a general home server to do whatever the fuck random things I want it to do.

i got something in mind like this for the next build
not that case tho, but a smaller motherboard, and smaller case than my air 540

GPU prices might inflate a bit more in the near future, lads.
Solid Angle, the maker of Arnold Renderer, which is the standard for 3D rendering for film and TV,
just released a demo on the soon to be GPU powered Arnold Renderer.
Arnold currently is CPU driven. GPU rendering can render a frame in a fraction of the time compared to minutes on a render farm.

wouldn't you just be much better off saving that money for an hdmi 2.1 OLED which should be able to go 4k @ 120 hz
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postwouldn't you just be much better off saving that money for an hdmi 2.1 OLED which should be able to go 4k @ 120 hzThere is already a 30inch 120hz OLED panel (kind of, i think its not being sold now) out, it just costs $3500. I wouldn't expect those to be in PC monitor sized panels for an affordable price for probably 2 years or so.
Gonna buy this set-up:
This good?
ATX Motherboard (B350 TOMAHAWK)
AMD CPU ryzen5 1600
NZXT S340 Mid Tower (tho can I replace this w/ Elite 110?)
EVGA 500 BQ, 80+ BRONZE 500W
be quiet! BL066 SILENTWINGS
SanDisk SSD PLUS 240GB (+plus with my 4tb hdd)
GTX 1070 AERO ITX 8G OC
+16gb of ram
This good?

I've not heard anything good about the MSI Tomahawk boards for Ryzen, but other than that? Looks solid. Been pretty happy with my R5 1600 on the whole. 1070 is still a good card too.
If your motherboard supports it, the Samsung 960 EVO offers the best combination of price+performance for an ssd. It's an NVMe M.2 drive, though.

So swap out the motherboard?
And would the Elite 110 be ok?
By YungMagus Go To PostSo swap out the motherboard?

Depends, if you want to overclock, then it'd be wise to change motherboard. If you want to put it all inside an ITX case like the Elite 110, then you'll have to downsize the board anyway.
As for the case, I'm not a fan of ITX cases that place the PSU above the CPU. It's ugly, and it puts form over function in a bad way since you're significantly limited in cooler height. That said, it does support a 120mm AIO which would alleviate the issue.
The 1070 should fit without issue too, specs I just pulled up list it as 184mm in length, the case is good for upto 210mm.
Edit: Speaking of AM4 ITX boards. I think there's 4 in total, a 5th by MSI is yet to be released and the X/B 4XX series is yet to release.
Biostar - Avoid
Gigabyte - Not terrible, weird layout though.
ASRock B350/X370 - X370 is identical to the cheaper B350. Good layout. Decent board from what I've heard, but a mixed bag with the APUs.
Asus B350/X370 - Again, identical boards. Good layout, an okay heatsink on the VRMs, overclocks quite well.
I own the Asus B350i, so I'm probably a bit bias, but it's genuinely a pleasant board. Good UEFI/BIOS, handles a 3.9Ghz OC and runs my RAM at the rated speed. Could probably handle 4Ghz, but I don't fancy running 1.4v though the R5 1600 for slightly better performance.
I see.....
So if I don't do the elite 110 what motherboard would you recommendation around the same price as the msi tomahawk?

Really informative video on AM4 boards.
Generally speaking though, I'd take it as is. I'm assuming you're buying it used and already built. Probably got a good deal on it too? Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. See how it pans out for you first, and look into to changing parts/upgrades later down the line.
A friend of mine asked me what I would recommend for a headphone amp that wouldn't break the bank. While I don't know all the offerings out there, I know three brands that are basically all quality and have many affordable options: JDS Labs, Schitt, and Emotiva. Went and made a google doc for him (and now others) with my recommended headphone amps, DACs, and amp + DAC combos: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1F1CNxgFKB88QlQwfMRuvI2p8fFbkV_z5DO7LJmeAMjM/edit?usp=sharing
There are most likely other choices that could be added to that list, but I always keep running into those brands in my searches every time someone asks me to help find them an amp or DAC.

I know this is going to sound rather redundant, but i picked up two 19" and two 17" 4:3 lcd panels (all four of them for $4), today was a good day, and all of them brand new stock, got everything up and running with some lvds driver units i had left over from some mame cab projects, so now i have some extra 4:3 displays for my side project (making a 2d platforming shooter for ps4/xbo/switch/pc, in a very SNES style, in the same style as Assault suits valken (Cybernator).

Naw, that sounds fantastic! I got a couple free 4:3 monitors from a previous job and use them as side screens on my main desktop. Your use is probably a better idea for them. lol
By Futaba Go To PostAlso great for playing pre-widescreen games without hunting for widescreen patches! My current widescreen monitor has a setting letting me disable scaling or have it maintain aspect ratio. I think there are settings in video card drivers to do that, too. Nvidia does anyway.

Which is great for doing fake ultra wide on a 16:9 monitor, by the way.
I think I'm going to miss having a 16:10 monitor when I eventually replace it. It's useful for playing a game in 1080p but still having the task bar and a row of browser tabs visible to easily check notifications and shit.
By Zabojnik Go To PostThis is a really nice DIY build. Love this guy's work.
That's really impressive craftsmanship, and really unique but it just looks like an expensive coffee machine.
My NUC should be coming in Tuesday. Excite! It's gonna be a much better workstation than my actual desktop while being smaller than the GPU. lmao
By Smokey Go To PostI think I'm gonna be on team ultrawide whenever the revised models come out.I'm leaning that way, too.
By Kibner Go To PostI'm leaning that way, too.
went back to my single 30'' monitor and it frees up so much space vs the two 23'' monitor setup. Combined with the wireless keyboard and mouse, it just looks a lot cleaner. Downside is this panel is 60hz and 2560x1600. I need a large panel with a good refresh rate. I'm hoping they revised Ultrawides actually come out this year tho.
I'll probably keep using my current (or a similar) monitor rack where I can put my extra monitors up top. Saves desk space.
