By NinjaFridge Go To PostWhy are they so obsessed with huge grills? They are trying to cater to the Chinese and Middle East market that absolutely love these giant grilles because it brings a direct association to the brand and showing off what brand you are driving is more important than the quality of the car itself:
The strongest criticism of the car came from Europe, which, though important, isn’t among the top two biggest markets for the big limousine. And it's working because they are selling a lot more of them:
“The 7 has always been the hardest to bring the expectations of the entire world into one shape. The customers are very, very different in China, the US, the Middle East and in Europe,” he said.
“In Europe people don’t want to get noticed. They don’t like being asked what they paid for a car and they like things in black like a stealth mode.
“The rest of the world is the opposite. We tried to give the Europeans what they want as well but the strongest market for the 7 is not Europe.”
But the beleaguered BMW design boss has had the last laugh on the 7 Series. It’s selling far better than the pre-facelift model did.https://www.motoring.com.au/bmw-defends-7-series-grille-119182/
“The production has ramped up since the facelift. They’re very happy people at the factory because we’re producing more cars now than before the facelift.”
Sadly it's not just the Chinese and Middle East who love this.
Pretty sure a majority of Americans love it too.

Majority? I don’t know ... Thats shits atrocious. Worst looking BMW I can remember
Yeah, that thing is absolutely disgusting looking. Big no just on styling alone, which is a shame because the current BMW drivetrain combo appears to be a damn good one (probable reliability issues aside.)
By Fenderputty Go To PostMajority? I don’t know … Thats shits atrocious. Worst looking BMW I can remember
We (as in us here in SLAENT and auto enthusiast community) aren't the majority tho... I'm talking about the Americans who keep buying this shit.
If we truly are the majority, they wouldn't have dropped the manual trans on every car they have except for some select cars.
Even BMWNA employees and dealers I meet tell me they push their overlords at Munich to keep it an option, but it's probably a lost cause at this point.
EDIT: Work just let me drive this...
By Adam Go To PostHow are Range Rovers nowadays?
They're okay.
Too many confusing ass trim levels, packages, and naming conventions. But they're the nicest land yachts in existence IMO.
Sadly this also applies for Jaguar, with the obvious except that Jag is more focused on the driving experience. Beyond that and physical looks, both brands are pretty much the same.
The best thing about JLR products these days are their lease specials... more so for employees. They depreciate so fast, I've heard of extreme cases where the dealer ends up paying the customer some cash at the end of the contract lol. Dunno if we've had to do that ourselves tho as I try to stay away from leasing coz I can't grasp how it works once you talk using phrases like money factor, cap cost, and all that other shit. Hell, when I write ads for lease specials, all I use is the sale price, lease terms, then monthly payment after down and TTL lmao.
Anyway, I'm getting offtopic lol. I will say that the Defender might be their most interesting product yet. Driving around earlier I was getting stares left and right... as if I was driving some kind of UFO. Last time I got those kind of stares was when I was driving around a matte black Rover SVAutobiography last year lol. If you've driven the Toyota FJ Cruiser, I'd say it's a lot more closer to that than a Wrangler but obviously more luxurious, rugged and freakishly fast. You can't toss it around a corner like you can a Cayenne or BMW SUVs, but you also won't feel like you'll roll it over when you're taking a corner fast.
I wouldn't mind dailying one tbh.
I created a leasing calculator when I was thinking about leasing stuff, if you want to take a look: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vHalsxR3t59RswrhyfYgtmPYpW4qKRBSh-EbrSNSnpA/edit?usp=sharing
Just fill out the top box and it does the rest. It likely won't be exactly correct, but should get you pretty darn close. The hardest info to find are the residual and money factor. Typically have to get that from the dealer as it really isn't on any sticker.
e: that sheet only works for states that charge sales tax on the total value of the lease instead of the total value of the car; i.e. it didn't work for me when i was looking to lease in Louisiana but it should be good for like 47 other states

RIP BMW's M division, I guess.
It's more important to them to make these cars noticeable so they can sell them to the brand whores rather than bring to life the original ethos of making an understated, yet recognizable driver's car. Fuck all of what they are doing.

Still don't get it as a status symbol.

Pretty much only driven by racists and rich Tories in the UK right now.

Ugh... I dunno how I'm gonna be able to write stuff for the new BMW's with a straight face. :\
Dang this is awesome. I'm gonna try to plug in some of the numbers from past deals and let you know how close you are lol.
I don't either. But I imagine its British-ness and the fact that every filthy rich person back then drove one(see The Last Dance for example lol) makes it one.
That's funny.
I'm anecdotally speaking of course, but I've been looking at the racial demographics of our customers due to what's going on in this shithole of a country and a majority of our Rover customers are not white. For every 5 Rovers we sell, 3 of those are sold to PoCs.

That's a sweet contrast, mate.
By jongkookie Go To PostEDIT: Work just let me drive this…
This is fucking AWESOME.
To answer an above question: having driven the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover LWB...they're awesome cars.
I would hope so, but I've seen some Honda Civic SI on IG with insane price tags and people don't really seem bothered by it.
By Facism Go To PostThat's a sweet contrast, mate.
Indeed.
I wonder if other brands have this same contrast.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostThis is fucking AWESOME.
You've driven it right?
Like I mentioned above, I liked it a lot but the one thing I forgot to mention are the brakes. That one I didn't like, I felt like you couldn't modulate it and get any kind of feedback that it's working unless you're looking at the speedo drop or see that you're really slowing down.
I actually thought it was an issue and was gonna bring it up to our GM yesterday but I did some research and it turns out it's using a brake by wire system... and that explained pretty much everything to me lol.
Macan is too small to make for a good hybrid, although there will be an EV one, and soon. Pretty sure it's the same platform as the Q4 e-tron.

Lexus doesn't really make performance cars per se, but with the RAV4 PHEV being what it is (probably the most desirable PHEV available) I wouldn't at all be surprised if we saw an RX350 PHEV with close to 400HP and a 50ish mile range soon.

I'd just about kill for an MDX PHEV with a 300HP J series V6 + a 50 mile EV range. Gotta re-up my Honda gang membership somehow. The MDX sport hybrid would be awesome if it wasn't for the unbelievable garbage infotainment it sports.

Oh thanks for the info.
I guess PHEV would definitely be an option.
The RAV4 does look pretty nice, and Toyota still has their credits...
Still wouldn't do a full electric with my commute tho.
Wouldn't mind an MDX too if they did a redesign...
PHEVs are just now starting to not suck IMO. Most of them have a 15-20 mile range and a minimal power boost that gets eaten by the extra weight. The only ones worth a damn (IMO) are the upcoming Rav4 and the BMW X5 xDrive45e which is out in EU now.
The BMW is a monster with 450 HP and a 54 mile range. But it's expensive and if you're PHEV using a turbo, supercharger or both is just adding an entirely pointless failure point as far as I'm concerned. Probably a damn fine vehicle if you lease it though.

Met with our BMWNA rep today and I was poking him with questions about the grill and supposedly this grill is only for the even numbered Bimmers and the odd numbered cars will retain a fairly normal grill.
Dunno if I believe him tho coz that grill is on the X5 and X7 and unless I've completely forgotten everything I've learned in elementary, I'm pretty sure 5 and 7 are odd numbers and not even.

Really not sure which way to go.
F-Types are a great leasing option the US. There are some seriously great deals for it if you go that way.

Yeah, a Jag ain't that big of a name here and their lease specials are fucking bonkers.
If you don't mind a 2020 F-Type(not the newly refreshed one) and have $5K lying around... you can lease an F-Type P340 for about $600/month for 3 years and 10k miles/yr. That $5K includes the downpayment, TT&L, other fees and your first month's payment. And I believe that offer is region-wide, if not national. If you've got a Rover or another Jag, a dealer will also apply a $1K loyalty credit, tho most of the time they do this anyway even if you don't have a Rover or Jag. If you want the 4-cyl version instead, you can get it for $500/month with the same terms as above.
For comparison's sake, that $5K downpayment can get you a base model Porsche Macan at $875/month lol.
