By RATHasReturned Go To PostI'm not a fan of any of those songs. Typically am not with the Oscars. The problem is that you have mostly non-musicians voting.
By Kabro Go To Postoh shit, Del Toro won.He won Golden Globe & Bafta too so not too surprising.
Shape of Water was a really nice movie, but I think people will remember Get Out the most. Without a doubt the movie of 2017 and one of the best from the decade. My personal rankings of the Oscar Noms.
1. Get Out
2. Phantom Thread
3. Call Me By Your Name
4. Lady Bird
5. Shape of Water
6. 3 Billboards
7. Dunkirk
8. The Post
9. The Darkest Hour
1. Get Out
2. Phantom Thread
3. Call Me By Your Name
4. Lady Bird
5. Shape of Water
6. 3 Billboards
7. Dunkirk
8. The Post
9. The Darkest Hour
Looking at list above again .... yeah, Blade Runner 2049 was robbed.
I'm okay with Shape of Water winning it. While I really liked Get Out, it really didn't do that much for me. Neither did Black Panther, so I guess I'm racist.

That was never in doubt Zabo.
I don’t think Best Picture snubs will ever get worse than Back To The Future not even being nominated.

How the Oscars preferential ballot turns the best picture race into a celebration of the 'least disliked'http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-ca-mn-oscars-preferential-ballots-20180301-story.html
Nothing particularly surprising in that lot. Happy for Deakins, but would have liked Chalamet to win over Gary Oldman. Shrug.
On a different note, I watched Rocky for the first time ever last night. I don't know whether I'm missing something, or it hasn't aged well, or it's just been watered down by pop-culture references in the last 40 years, but it didn't do loads for me. Appreciate a lot of the things it did well, but I probably preferred Creed.
Don't @ me.

As much as I loved Coco, Sufjan Stevens should have won the Oscar for original song.
Other than that I've seen too little of the nominated films yet to have a strong opinion on the winners yet. Hopefully I get to see Shape of Water, Call Me By Your Name and Darkest Hour this week.

the first rocky is kind of rough and it's been mined so many times over that it feels like you've already seen it. i don't rewatch it much. 2 3 and 4 tho whew
i can (and have, with commercials at that) watch those back to back to back
-The movies nominated are limited audience fare. Not a quality complaint, just box office accurate.
-The Nielsen audience for Oscar's may just be dwindling over the years. Do you know anyone with a Nielsen box? are they someone that cares about this awards ceremony in 2018?
-Lack of competition: After James Franco's issues, he was out of the actor category for nomination. The challenger to Gary Oldman on the big show was gone and that was a wrap. Frances was a lock for Actress. Same with Supporting Actress and supporting actor.
-Back to the limited audience stuff. Three BIllboards got knocked down a peg for not being #MeToo enough. Shape of Water (haven't seen it) got pushed and ultimately one. The Get Out stuff was late, maybe2/3 weeks of "hey I have a feeling this is possible." Then Black Panther happened and Get Out got talked about more. At the end of the day, screenplay is all it go.
I'll keep repeating it until proven wrong, Black Panther is gonna get nominated for a lot of categories that it shouldn't. It's the large box office movie for the Academy and their voters to show how hip (woke) they are and an opportunity to laud it get people talking.

Black Panther is gonna get nominated for a lot of categories that it shouldn't.What?
It's not going to get a single nomination LOL
By reilo Go To PostWhat? If it's remembered at all during awards season a year from now, it'll get a nomination - not a win - in something like costume design or adapted screenplay.
It's not going to get a single nomination LOL
The academy will be 'woke' about something else.
BP might get a costume nod and original song but at the end of the day it’s a fucking dumb action movie with a really bad third act. Get Out is there because the production company pushed it like crazy and it’s a tightly told good story. Marvel isn’t going to push shit.
Whoa Pacific Rim 2 is going to be bad. Hope you weren’t expecting them to fight any Kaiju until the end of the movie

I’m going to cry so hard during this movie I just know it.

It looked awful from the trailers anyway.
None of the mechs moved with the weight they had in the first movie

This is going to be better than Mute
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wiseau, known for writing, directing and starring in The Room (the so-bad-it's-good 2003 cult hit), plays the lead character — a bounty hunter in search of his long-lost love — in the new film, which is set in a bleak Los Angeles.

Well whoever said BP is gonna get some Oscar noms has Nolan on their side

“So what’s gonna win next year?” Nolan asked me half-jokingly. He predicted Black Panther will be among the Best Picture nominees in 2019, which would make it the first comic-book movie to break that ceiling with the Academy. I reminded him that it was because of The Dark Knight’s exclusion that the Academy went to 10 (and now up to 10) nominees to get movies like that included, but to no avail so far. A top Disney exec told me flat out that they would be campaigning not only Black Panther for the big prize but also the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns (from director Rob Marshall), which he was raving about, particularly for star Emily Blunt.
They might do it for the TV ratings. Haven't watched it so I don't know if it deserves but I doubt it.
i loved it but i think it'd be laughable if it got a best picture nom.
the #BPforBP campaign writes itself though. pay me disney.

So how are people ranking the last 10 years of Oscar winners? Some of them are fucking dire. 12 Years > Moonlight > Birdman > Spotlight >> The Shape of Water > Hurt Locker > King's Speech >The Artist >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Slumdog Millionarie >>> Argo
Chazelles First Man about Armstrong with Gosling as the lead is gonna win Best Picture. Bank on it. The Academy ain't letting go of the chance of making it up to Damien after the screw up last year. Plus the subject matter is baity as fuck

This is bang on, except I think King's Speech is okay.
Moonlight is the best of the lot.
