Trump Lawyer Told Justice Dept. That Classified Material Had Been Returnedwhoopsie
The lawyer signed a statement in June that all documents marked as classified and held in boxes in storage at Mar-a-Lago had been given back. The search at the former president’s home on Monday turned up more.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostLol why would Biden pardon him?
Korea just pardoned the Samsung heir for economic healing post Covid.
[Korea doesn’t realise that maybe they would be better off with someone running their biggest company who isn’t constantly getting himself charged with criminal cases /spoiler]
By FortuneFaded Go To PostTrump's lawyers be needing lawyersI mean his current lawyer is some oan election truther so she probably already has one from the dominion lawsuits.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostLol why would Biden pardon him?Unfortunately if you don't then the political landscape and civil discourse would be much worse, you'll have 20% of the country going to jihad for him, ultimately causing a civil war. There's already a big political stride and divide, the worse thing that can happen is to inflame the situation. Pardon the fucker, get it done with and move the fuck on.
If anything this situation gives him voice again, a reason to rally his backing. It's a lose-lose situation. DeSantis must be fuming.
FBI better have covered all angles when deciding to go down the path they have.

It's almost as-if we have agencies, policies and laws in place to stop that kinda thing.
But instead Frustrated David Brooks wants to propose appeasement to crimes and attempts of insurrection by a sitting / former president.
By that logic we should have reversed the results of the last election to prevent January 6th.

By Frustrated_me Go To PostDo you think locking up Trump can lead to a civil war?No.
By Kibner Go To PostNo.He got 74 million votes - almost half of the votes cast - has a cult following that'll do anything for him, already tested waters on Jan 6th and the GOP are his accomplices. I think locking him up can lead to a potential civil war. I wouldn't rule out Trump weaponizing his base if it meant he was going to be locked up, I think he's already started the narrative.
If we can send a couple hundred thousand troops to Iraq to start a democracy there I am sure we can pluck a few to protect democracy here.

With that reasoning may as well not ever prosecute politicians or any controversial figure because some crazy fucker out there will have an issue of it.

But Trump is not just any politician or just any controversial figure, is he? He's able to weaponize his base on a whim, he's got 74 million people that voted for him, he said so himself - he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and get away with it, and he did after what happened on January 6th. No other figure has this capability.
I'm the first one that would like to see the fucker locked up, I can't stand him or his family, he's the single biggest greatest threat to Western society, I believe that. But unfortunately he's backed by the GOP and more importantly Fox News, he's got a huge following that's been looking for a reason, all he's got to say is that this is a Witch Hunt or that the evidence was implanted, and his followers will go to war for him. We've seen this playbook once before, he's got the template to repeat it again.
I don't actually think his base has a chance against any capable police or military setup, that's not really my concern. My main concern is the continued political divide and discourse within the society, further eroded by this situation, where then the country defeats itself internally rather than an external force defeating it. Kind of like what every other great power went through.
Anyways let's see how this unfolds, let's see if it even gets to Biden having to pardon someone.

And they don't have to sacrifice their comfortable lives, though we saw many thousands of people rioting on Capitol Hill calling for the heads of government officials, seemingly they're more than willing to do whatever it takes.
I think what's most concerning about all this is the continued general discourse, the system eating itself from within because people are further divided than ever before. This situation uniquely has the potential to further ignite and take the discourse into the stratosphere.
Ford pardoned Nixon, it was thought that it'll be best to move on (i.e., best interest of the country), it's been done before. This ain't a wild concept.

Do you know what a civil war is?
That was basically a bipartisan enabled joyride 😂 we monetized that shit to the point where even people a world away are still glued to it
You are literally trying to convince actual Americans that shit is at a boiling point when we can't even be bothered to show up to vote

Nixon was never coming back to the oval office my guy -- his second term was about to be up anyhow. That pardon meant jack shit. Trump is still able to get ahold of the White House again.

By DY_nasty Go To PostA vote does not mean you're willing to sacrifice a comfortable life for your candidate lol I swearTrump cultists have shown they don’t care about their lives. They are only here to serve Donald.
Proud Boys are just LARPers but these other people? There’s something wrong with them
America has a long history of cults.
Jonestown, Heaven's Gate.
Trump's lot are no different.
Question is, what is it about the population that makes to prime to cult-like worship?

You don't think the American politics are at a tipping point? Did you not see what almost happened on January 6th?
Here is a report from this week, from historians and academics who study the topic: Historians privately warn Biden that America’s democracy is teetering
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/08/10/biden-us-historians-democracy-threat/
When Biden met with historians last week at the White House, they compared the threat facing America to the pre-Civil War era and to pro-fascist movements before World War II
By DY_nasty Go To PostYal not about to act like trump invented dumb Americans nowI might not have been paying but I don’t remember people ever trying to take over FBI buildings
There’s dumb and there’s nailgun vs bulletproof window dumb/storming the Capitol
I assume the percentage of Trump's voters that thinks they're willing to kill and die for him is pretty low (though most visible obviously), and the number that actually are is much lower still when the shooting starts.
The big problem as far as I can see is the overlap between them and the gun nuts, so even if it falls far short of a civil war, they could do a lot of damage.
